Hi,
Could someone recommend a make and supplier of Glow plugs for a 1996 2.5 DSE please.
Don't want to risk fitting a set that won't last

Cheers :D

I just fitted bosch,£7,50 each from Andrew Paige Factors, also got a set of leak off pipes £5,OO. Not sure of your location .they are in the North West, mine now starts bang on the button. hope this helps.

hi,
as far as i know the make of glow plugs fitted to the RR diesel when manufactured are BERU, i got mine off EBAY for around £50.
all the best kevin

Valeo, Beru, Bosch, all relaible brands, take your pick. OEM will probably be one of these.

Andrew Paige supposed to be TRADE factors. But any Tom Dick or Harry can go in and get TRADE prices. Problem is their TRADE prices are extortionate. If you have them near you Partco or Dodgesons are much cheaper for same stuff. If your in the trade that is.

you can get beru plugs from german swedish, for about 55 quid.

German Swedish known as GSF because they've added French to the list!
The engine is BMW M51 and you can get various bits for that engine from them, inlet manifold gaskets, glow plugs, leak off pipes are just 3 but beware some external parts on the engine are different on the Range Rover.

Are you sure your problem are the glow plugs? I wondered about mine as it needed two or more goes of preheat to get it to start, then I purchased a one way fuel valve and put that in the fuel supply circuit after the filter and I now have an engine that fires up after one hit of the glow plugs! With wear, fuel drains back and creates an air lock, the one way valve stops that happening. Total cost £12 including 8mm valve and new 8mm fuel pipe and 4 clips. Hardest part is carefully cutting the old, very hard, fuel pipe off the plastic elbow on the fuel filter. Time for job 1 hour.

Island 4x4 have Beru at £8.50 and "Glow Heater Plug P38 2.5TD STC3103" for £3.69

Anybody know if the cheap ones are any good?

I would recommend that you do not fit cheap' ones.

My garage did and they feel apart in the engine. The ceramic casings broke up.

Ceramics and Piston rings don't mix well.
I would only fit Bosch or Beru (Beru are original equipment) from a reputable supplier, another £30 is far cheaper than an engine rebuild after scoring your liners and breaking a ring or two!

I have never seen a glowplug with ceramic casings. There may well be a ceramic insulator in there somewhere but the casing and glow tip are steel.

Just fitted some for mine paid 34 quid for 6
they were NGK ones
vehicle was starting a treat until i broke the selector pin on the R380 gearbox See previous post re How much...!!
