Hi can anyone offer some advice, I have a 1998 P38 Range Rover 2.5 bmw diesel, had it 8 years and gone through most of the usual problems. I Started haveing problems with the engine cutting out while sitting in traffic or at traffic lights and occasionally the rpm. will suddenly increase, although this all stops once warmed up.
So i took it to local 4x4 garage they say their computer (testbook or something) comes back with 'top of injector pump fault' I think this is where the electronics, accelerator etc are , they have now got a secondhand pump, but they say it needs recoding? I believe the pump is a Bosch ve 0460406994, I was under the impression if the new pump came from a P38 it should work ok, but maybe if it comes from a 5 series bmw or omega then maybe something needs recoding?
Do any fellow landrover owners have any idea about these pumps? can it just be fitted then set up with testbook or is it more complicated then that.
Sorry for waffleing on I would be grateful for any help or advice
Steve

Wammers will be on shortly, he is the diesel guru and knows all about the diesel engines. I believe that the pump is right but the electronics are not compatable with the P38

If the pump you are fitting carries the part number 0460406994 it needs nothing doing to it other than fitting and timing.
