Replacement on its way right now to LPG guy who is going to fit and then play with fuel trims etc whilst I am off on hols.

Btw Kwik Fit aren't bad for everything having managed to source tyres for the Boxster and Jeep at cracking prices and also having done the brakes on the Jeep over 60k miles for a single payment under the "free replacements as long as you own it scheme".

i have custom exhaust 2.5inc bore turbo back with staright throw pipe but i have a 2.5dse if u have a petrol get a sport cat and s/s exhaust stysem weather u have twin or single. Single is around £385 and twin around £525 plus sport highflow cat and ur find a diffrence in mpg do u have eney other modifcasion?

It has Torquemax Cam and Tornado chip fitted. To be honest I really dont care for the "sport" scenario. It is a big old 4 * 4 that I just want to run without scaring the neighbours kids :)

Believe it or not this is still dragging on. Now had 2 front cat sets neither of which fit. Returned the KF one and now looking as if I need to get a whole system from a single maker as the components send which are all meant to be compatible as anything but.

How difficult can it be to make a pattern exhaust FFS !!!

I ve fitted a Janspeed cat back system in stainless, sounds very nice is not loud, cost 425 quid from e bay (Road Runner).

both my rangies have janspeed systems on , bought them direct from janspeed £399 each ,sounds great!! also decat pipes were fitted, sounds alot louder with decat ,but runs smoother ,pulls harder ,more mpg, engine runs slightly cooler.
apart from the better sound from the exhaust i think most of the improvements were a result of the decat
told my insurance company aviva about decat and exhaust system ,they did not regard this as a modification or an lpg conversion :confused2:,
however they did claim that larger wheels were a modification :)

Bleeding insurance companies. Which one are you with? Where did you get the decat pipes from? I'm tempted but the only ones I've found cost as much as replacement cats!

I'll consider the janspeed route when my existing system falls off, but it seems solid at the moment apart from the cats. I used to get stiffed an extra £60 a year on my Vectra for having a non standard exhaust.

What size wheels have you got?

my insurance company is aviva {formally norwich union }
decat pipes - the one set i bought from je engineering £250 ,however they dont make them anymore, allthough i have seen a company selling them for £150 in s/steel but cant remember where will look and let you know
the other set i made myself just cut the cats out and welded in a straight pipe
i would not recomend smashing the middle of the cats out they sound crap a horrible hollow sound
wheels are 19" and 20" range rover sport:)
is yours lpg ? as at the moment you can only get away with no cats if its lpg, you need a understanding mot tester:)

Cheers for the info. Knowing my luck I'd get stiffed by the MOT dude. MOTs are worrying enough without having to worry about the cats.

I can vouch for the horrible noise emptied cats make - the previous owner did it to mine. I just want a proper V8 noise!

I was looking at the double S sport cats but I've heard varied things about their production quality and the bleeding car won't stop breaking long enough for me to save enough for some:)

kooky

Know how you feel. Almost now at the point of thinking "What did I do ? Why didn't I just go buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee for another £2k and save the cash on keeping this piece of junk alive ?".

Still maybe if I get to drive it for more than 2 days at a time 2 months after buying it I will change my mind.

Just in case if you find anybody that is desparate for the RR experience and want a car that has all the bugs ironed out through the continued applicaiton of £ over months do drop me a line. :frusty:

You'll find most advertising cats and stainless systems are selling Double 'S' manufactured systems. There is a lifetime warranty on them provided you have the MOT inspector/garage stamp the paperwork Double S supply with the exhaust. They are looking for exhaust mounting rubber failure.

If you've got the earlier single system, then keep it single. The dual exit system is less efficient and quieter than the single. Land Rover switched to dual exit to lower the noise levels to meet market specific laws.

The Double S cats are metallic (200cpi or 100cpi) and are generic in their manufacture. A standard ceramic cat has 400cells per inch and they do get clogged up with crap because they are so fine. I doubt Double S build the metallic cats and cases, just the front and Y section which comes with the cat section.

I've been running my system without fault for a few yeats now. Sounds fantastic especially past 3500rpm. My only gripe is that it does have surface corrosion as they make the system using different grades of metal due to the properties required at certain points of the system.

Without spending a fortune at someone like JP Exhausts, I think they are excellent value for money.
