Hi'

Sorted the problems at after 3 weeks :-

I bought a cheap P38 (2,900 for a P Reg) with electrical problems (headlights stayed on when switched off, wipers wouldn't park, suspension wouldn't rise, windows, mirrors, sunroof wouldn't work and central locking intermittent.

I fitted a new fuse box from Rimmers Spares and it solved the weird headlight fault, wipers not parking and the suspension fault. Finally got a new centre console switch pack from Rimmers within 16 hours after local 4x4 place said they weren't available anywhere) and that solved the windows, sunroof and mirrors not working fault. I had stripped the switch but nothing obvious wrong and the computer at the 4x4 place said that was the fault. The 4x4 place fitted new door switches (front) and this cured central locking fault. They also fitted new glow plugs and this has almost cured the cold stating fault also. (Probably me not doing something right because I've never had a diesel before) Could have done the switches and plugs myself but as I bought the car cheap it was nice to let somebody else get there hands dirty for a change! Total spent is 3,800 for a brilliant vehicle that I actually enjoy driving and I'm getting 30mpg + using mostly steep country lanes and some motorway driving. Thanks Gloves for your help (my e mails to you keeps getting returned for some reason).

nice one kevin its great to hear about a success when you buy a rangerover with faults and it turns out to be a resonabley easy fix :) i have just had a similar experiance with a 4.6 hse i bought with overheating problems , i just cleaned out the blocked vent pipe from the top of the rad to the header tank and cured the problem , but just for good measure i also fitted a new radiator @ £152.00 it just seemed daft not to as i suspect the radiator that was fitted was the original anyway i hope you have many miles of trouble free motoring with your new purchase :) :)
