Evening Gents. My P38 is reluctant to start when cold. I've put a new Land Rover battery on it, changed the air filter, fuel filter and the glow plugs but still it is reluctant to start. Any ideas??
 
Have you checked current is getting to the glow plugs?
Also check relay by ecu
could be the the pump in the tank,is it ok when hot?
 
Having just changed mine with startling results I'd suggest the in-tank pump. It's a simple electrical pump so just check that you've got a decent flow at the filter with the ignition switched on.
 
Thanks Gents for your thoughts so far. I bought a multimeter today to check the glowplugs, haven't actually checked them yet, it's now too dark. The flow to the fuel filter looks good, so I'm guessing that's not the problem. It does start when hot, although sometimes it is reluctant. Which relay is it? and where is the ECU temperature sensor? Your wisdom is appreciated.

Under manifold usually a blue body. The brown one is for the temp gauge.

hi wammers, is that definite? i didnt have a temp gauge at all and when i was looking around the other day noticed that the blue plug wasnt plugged in. I plugged it in and now have a temp gauge readout on dash

The ECU temp sender is usually blue. The one for the dash temp gauge is usually brown.
