hello i recently brought a p38 dse with a gearbox problem "it was slipping between 2nd and 3rd". i decided to get it rebuilt by a highly recommended automatic transmision specialist. since getting it back last sunday i've noticed that once the gearbox warms up it seems to be binding especially in reverse. basically if you select reverse with your foot on the brake the engine seems to struggle down to about 400rpm and will not respond to the throttle and if you release the brake it moves quickly backwards with no throttle. i have been back to the specialist and he is saying it is nothing to do with the gearbox it is the engine managment. the rangerover has been chipped could this cause the problem even though it did'nt do it before the rebuild? all i know about what was done is that clutch number 7 was damaged so he replaced it with the more heavy duty one found in the zf24 box. im no expert but im thinking the heavy duty clutch is bigger and binding when warm because of heat expantion. i have checked the normal things like the idle speed 750rpm and its fine

Just my opinion, but I would say either a problem with the gearbox or torque converter. I'd get a diagnosis from a LR specialist, someone with Testbook or similar.

thanks, i think it more the gearbox because the torque converter would do it in forward gears aswell. i had it plugged in today on rovercom and there are no faults logged!!

Does anyone have any idea why the gearbox would bind only in reverse, the engine speed is forced right down and there is no response from the throttle until you release the brake and move backwards!!! help its doing my head in!!
