When I start the engine in the morning the engine runs as it should. It is ticking over at about 850rpm. After about 1 minute or driving half mile the idle drops to about 730rpm & the engine shakes from side to side as if it is about to jump out from under the bonet. This only happens on idle or below 1000rpm. If I turn on either the air con, or the front & rear heated screens it stops shaking & funs smooth , still idling at about 730rpm. When the engine is completely warm, after driving about 15- 20 minutes it runs smooth with no vibration at all. I have took the car to Land Rover, they told me to take it to a diesel injection place. I have taken it to 2 diesel injection places & it has been put on 3 diagnostic's & has come up with no fault codes. Test book also showed no fault codes. Can anyone please help as I don't know where to turn next to solve this problem. The engine does this every day & once the engine is warm it is a lovely car to drive. Any ideas? Thank you, Ace.

hi ace, i have idle issues with my dse very lumpy like its only running on 5 increasing the tickover speed definatley helped but after loads of research im led to believe its a dual mass flywheel fault (expensive) i too have gone down the injection specialist route as the symptoms point in that direction however ive also been told that a fault with the dmf wont show up on a diagnostic test, i know this info is all speculative and id be interested to know how you get on

Hi Thank you for your reply. If it is the dual mass flywheel would it stop the engine shaking once the engine is warm? Does yours still shake when the engine is warm? And would it stop when the air con or front & rear heated screens are turned on, which is what mine is doing?

well im no expert, mine is worse in traffic but after a motorway run its fine maybe by turning on various electrical equipment its having a bearing on the load on the engine thereby balancing it, i know a hell of a lot of money has been spent trying to fix this problem because its so symptomatic of an injector pump problem thats where everyone wants to look, the dmf is suspect not just on the rangey but on many other types so much so that many vehicles can be retro fitted with a one piece flywheel the only surprise to me is that not that many people seem to know that much about it, try searching the web for info, apart from that perhaps make the suggestion to your lr dealer see what they say

OK I have read about the DMF & it would seem that this gives this problem when it's hot & by touching the throtle stops it. My engine shakes when it's cold not hot & I can increase the idle to 1000rpm & it still does it. The car has done this since I bought it aboue 6 months ago & it had just had a new clutch when I bought it. If it was the DMF I would hope they would have replaced it at the time of changing the clutch. I will ask my Landrover dealer about the DMF but they have said before I should take it to a diesel specialist. Thank you for your advise though.

hmm.Ace...I would be surprised if it's your dmf flywheel because as you say the problem occurs when cold not hot.

You may have already read my posts and replies about my problem on this forum and here

My new dmf flywheel and clutch arrived today so thats my project for christmas! £540 inc vat and delivery..ouch!

One piece flywheel kits don't seem to be available for the rangy.

Have you checked the viscous fan?
