Hi All,

So i've been reading through sooooo many threads and am still yet to come to a conclusion what to do.

I'm used to driving pretty quick cars but have moved over to a 1997 P38 2.5d for a bit of a change.....and it's a lot slower than i thought it would be!! Therefore i'm considering a remap or from what i've read a power box seems the best bet.

My problem is the cars done about 140k and it's an auto with little service history. Both these signs point to me thinking before long the added power is gonna result in a hefty bill that i can't afford.

Do i put up with the boring sluggishness or just go for it and cross my fingers. I only plan on owning it till next spring or so and could then remove the power box.

Is it worth the risk and are there any checks that could maybe be carried out 1st??

Mine had 120 on the clock will full lrsh put a power box on it and 15000 miles down the road and I was hit with £1500 bill for gearbox now I have another problem it wont go in to first ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It made a lot of difference but I wouldnt bother . I'm sticking with the thought that they may be slow but they can go anywhere ...... Good luck if you go for one, my plug in chip will be on sale on eBay very soon

I think i'm just asking for trouble!! I do want it really bad but may have to just have a few off road days to see why i really bought it.

I guess on the plus side whatever i do buy next will feel like a rocket!

The P38 is quicker than it feels once you get used to the throttle response. Mine had a power box fitted at about 80K, gearbox started to fail at 103K.
