Being new to the world of p38 range rovers, i thought that most parts would be available second hand now due to the many that are being broken for spares !
That was until i started looking today for a near side front door lock/latch, as my central locking actuator has given up working
Am i right in saying that a decent working second hand one is rare as rocking horse s..t ?
I did look on a couple places for new one's and was astounded at prices of over a hundred quid each
Typically i have a number locks and actuaters for the classic model kicking about, but their totally different to the p38.:(
Does anyone know where i can get a working unit for a reasonable price, or even a new one for a lot less than the advertised price i have seen ?
Cheers Andy..

Bit far from me Bernie, im down in Dorset.

You could try RPi in Norwich - they usually have about a dozen P38s they are breaking at any time. Ebay name is Partsrange I think, ask for Ian or Chris (the owner) - they are very helpful and know a lot about Rangie engines too....they still had a few Coscast blocks last time I was there.....they'll find a part for you if they don't have it in stock at the time.

I had to replace two on my 4.6. There are about 3 or 4 different types and, like you, I was shocked at the prices people wanted.

In the end I bit the bullet and bought brand new ones from the dealer at £148 each. OK not the cheapest but they were brand new and I had confidence they should last a while.

I also found out the it was the RF receiver in the boot that caused a power spike and blew the front locks. Apparently it's quite common so I changed that for the later one as well (£152)

Possibly not the news you wanted to hear but I found it to be the best option for me.:)

Can i ask Rayc, how you found out it was the RF receiver that caused the power spike ?

I spoke to a guy in Brighton who repairs BECM's and when I explained the problem he said it was common and what the problem was likely to be.

Changed the RF and the locks. He said if I put locks in without the RF I would end up changing them again!

So I did it!
