Hello All,
Ive not been on the site for a while and when i was here i hide in the RR section, well im Coming Out lol lol.

Boring story but here we go,, Couple of years back i had a 110 CSW, until someone took a fancy to it ,, So i ended up with a P38 ok ok you dont had to say it learned the hard way, its a great motor when it runs When being the opparative word, it was so unreliable and a expensive on parts its sat on my drive now for 9 months,,, Now what i need to know is ,,, How much of the good stuff ( axels gearbox chassis engine ) can be graphted into a 90, or an 88.
I do have the use of a lathe miller and welding gear ( 3 types) what i dont have is the knowledge of what i can use from the P38 and is it worth doing. Oh forgot to mention its a 6 pot BMW diesel engine and in good nick.
Thanks for looking ,,, Cogswell

Anything is possible, provided you have the time, patience and money to do it.

I'm not that familiar with the RR p38, but given the BMW engine, i would guess a lot of electrikery involved in ECU's etc which would probably be prohibitive. Maybe break it and buy something a little more complete

Its not an easy job , I am looking at putting a 3ltr BMW in my 110 CSW . You would need to fit a lt230 on the back of your gearbox as the one on the p 38 has the output shafts on the other side to a defender . It would probably be easier to fit a defender body onto a P38 chassis than mod the Rangie complete drivetrain JMHO

Someone in the ALRC put a series 1 body on a P38 chassis, just like a normal hybrid but with more steering lock. as for the gear box if it is an auto I think Ashcroft does a stand alone controller

Its a manual box not sure which one. Series body on P38 chassis mmm isnt the P38 100"... it would need to be cut and shut surely " 88 or 90 ". I wasnt thinking along the line of moding the drive chain,, what i was wondering was,,, use the gearbox/transbox as is along with the axels complete, the engine maybe ????? cut off the spring buckets fromthe banjos and replace with leaf platforms,,, steering well id have to mix and match i guess,, cut out the SIII crossmember and use the P38 modded to fit,,,,, engine well im open to ideas

That seems an awful lot of work to end up with a leaf sprung series 3 (now't wrong with a series by the way) the transfer box on a p38 is ecu controlled too, the diffs are on the other side so the engine is over too the right and the turbo is low on the right hand side, you will have to make the Bosh engine management work without the BeCM. You will have loads of problems to sort out. Break it up sell the bits and by a series with a TDI in it.

MMM Yeh i think your right. Dont have to be a leafer, and old 90 would do lol lol its only to carry my dogs,,,,,,,,,,,, lol aint no room in the cabbie and cant have the roof down ,,, i know shoot the dogs ,,, lol but then i got to chase rabbits and pick up pigeons,,,, no seriously,, i think ill put it back on the road and see if i can get a swop for an old 90..... cheers lads
