Hello everyone
Should be picking my rr up today just had to have recon gearbox and transfer , the question I ask is should I leave the plug in on or take it off ? I have heard the with the p38 chipped it's to much for the gearbox is this true
What would you lot say

depends on what faults were and caused by i see plenty through lack of servicing what were faults for having boxes replaced

ive got a chip power box thing in mine, currently dissconected, wondering the same thing if to connect it and try it out or not or just leave it

If its auto leave disconnected, manual = enjoy
Easy way of gaining power out of DT engine is to remove the inner contents of the cat, have cut mine open and removed the honeycomb from inside then re-welded back up so that visual appearance is that cat is still fitted, also changed from twin back box to single rear system = big difference. My power/torque delivery now starts at 1000revs not 1800 as before.

With the power box the engine torque exceeds the auto gearbox torque rating, so, depending on your driving style and the condition of the box, it will fail much sooner with the power box than it will without the power box.
After driving Pajero's, I find that the performance of the P38 diesel is great by comparison even without the power box. I have removed mine as it ate the box.

My is a auto so think its best to take off , was running fine, 5 months with the plug in and just had to pay a bill of£1500 for gearbox and torque converter not good
Thanks for your replys

Morning all,

Does this really work? I've got a power box on mine and I may end up cooking my gearbox but the lack of grunt without it means I'll take my chances...
:D:D:D

When I first got mine it was very sluggish, so looked around and found it had a large J Fearn intercooler fitted but no power box or chip. so fitted a std intercooler onto it - slight improvement - then replaced twin box rear system with a single primarily for better ground clearance, but noticed an increase in the lower engine responce. Next step was removing contents of the cat - well caked with soot - now the trubo can be heard spooling at 900rpm and power / torque comes in from 1k upwards. J Fearn intercooler is not going back on again so is just sat here, besides will not fit with winch mount now anyway!

I can remember removing the cat from a car i owned in the early nineties purely because i could not afford to replace it at the time. Well honestly when i drove the car home it felt like some one had fitted a turbo to it ! plus a real noticeable improvement in mpg .

The answer is simple, if your vehicle is an early vehicle remove the powerbox as this will save your rebuilt transmission....:)

Then parcel up said item and post to it me as I own a manual P38 which doesn't appear to have the same power transmission restrictions...;).......:behindsofa:
