Hi guys just got my range up and running after being on the drive for 3 years. Well I bought it off a bloke who had it and it got vandalised. He told me it was paint stripper or brake fluid. I was planning to have a go at sanding and painting myself. I have got all the tools, but in my research I can't get a definite answer to how to deal with it. Continue what they started and strip it. The damaged side would be the passenger side bonnet wing and door. Any help would be appreciated thanks. I miss driving her.

used panels has got to be the answer, as you may never get all the stripper out the paint/metal work and last thing you want to do is rub it down and respray it to find it and all reacts.

I used nitromors on a Morris Minor bootlid to strip all the old paint. After scraping the paint off, washed it down, sanded it and re-painted it no probs. You should know after 1st coat of primer if its going to react.

nitromors has been reformulated due to voc content along with most paint strippers they don't work the same or as good now try and get hold of some paramos,it's the only one any good at mo.It's available to trade and you have to sign disclaimer to say your only using it in workshop.

Thanks guys great info. See it's kameleon colour and I want to change to black. New panels is a good idea too. The pillar between door and front window got it too. The intention was to do this when I bought it. But the box went and that cost a grand, so painting it was put back. Then the clutch that they were supposed to do with the box (which i still have). Started to slip and I parked it up. I got an omega diesel elite and I think the head gasket has gone. So why not get the range back on the road? £££££

yeah im a paint sprayer, like the guys said paint strip it, clean it, sand it, then etch prime it then 2 pac prime it. dont attempt to just sand down without stripping as it will look really wobbley and like a dogs dinner. any info you need on bodywork just ask nmate

Wow that's unreal. There was me watching videos on YouTube. I'm a lot more confident now tbh. See I'd like to give it a go really. I've looked up the paints there on eBay, the stripper I'll have to get from somewhere. Thanks a mill Gazzab79. I watched them paint a few small parts on wheeler dealer so now I'm ready for the off lol. Right so if I strip it back and sand it. Won't I be sanding bare metal? That etch primer seems to be the stuff to use! And do I have to treat it after I strip it or just wash it? You guys are the nuts!! Been a silent reader for years, I guess all my questions were asked on here. I put a video up before I'll try get it up.

Yeah you will be sanding bare metal. but it will take any pit marks etc out. use 180 grade discs. Yes you must etch prime first. range rovers are aluminuium. paint wont stick!. what i would suggest is the parts that need stripping is, bush all the stripper on trhen cover the panel in a bin liner or something as it will stop it drying out, then leve it a few hours to work, overnight would be best. And no u dont need to treat it, just clean it with paint thinner or degreaser(panel wipe)

Just a point, taking note of tips from Wheeler Dealers is not a good idea.

Had the same thing happen to my Fireblade. As they said, down to bare sheet, etch, 2 pac and job done. make sure you are welllllll Ventilated and NO DUST! its a killer after spraying to find dust and hairs on your new paint. also, IMO, dont skimp on the paint. better to put an extra coat or 2, rather than just enough. gives a better finish as well.

never trust wheeler dealers, how do you think people get ripped off in the first place!

Just strip the whole car then I think. The 2 pack paint do Matt black to I see.. Glad you said bout etch cods it's ally, didn't know that! Need to fill a few dings as well but should be ok. Me and my step dad gonna tackle this job when I get all the materials. Hes got some sheet metal to pratice on.I do like that Matt black but ya can't beat a nice black shinny p38 now. Oh I promised that link. Thanks guys.
