Hi All

OK so I have recently become the owner of a 1996 P38 2.5 DT with 150000 miles on the clock. Had very few problems so far, only sloppy steering and radiator goosed, but that's about it - so far! Until yesterday!

Over the weekend I left the car parked on quite a steep bank - nose up. When I came to start it, I let the glow plug light go off and then it usually starts immediately. However, it just turns over, no firing. I free-wheeled the car onto flat ground and lifted the bonnet. It appears there is no fuel pressure through the translucent pipe which runs from the fuel filter to the injector pump. Any ideas? Of course it sounds like the fuel pump but this seems quite a coincidence that it happened after I had left it parked on a bank.

I have read somewhere about bypassing the fuel relay - is this worth a go to at least prove the pump is OK?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

Hi,

I think it's relay 12? in the bonnet fusebox for the fuel pump, you could check it on the box.

You should just apply a positive lead to the relay 12 slot that is in opposite direction of the other slots. Hope you get it! Good luck.

If it was low on fuel and facing up a steep bank, the pump in the tank may not be able to pump fuel through.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have just bought a new fuel filter (and a battery charger!) so will try these suggestions. If I ever do get it started, a new fuel pump is on the shopping list!

Cheers

OK an update: It was the fuel pump. Got quoted GBP 125+VAT from a local motor factors... ended up getting a new one from a place near York for 40 quid including the VAT! Bought a Dremel and cut an access hatch and replaced the pump - now perfect :)
