Well when I was having problems with my fip pump it would only squirt diesel when crank and still does

You are talking the fuel injection pump, it can't inject fuel unless the engine is being turning. We are talking the Fuel Lift pump in the tank.

I know my car does not pump fuel with ignition turned on warmers only when cranked with the clear pipe leading to the fip pump remove lossend have I explained my self enough for you now

right ive put a new bosh fuel filter on, but there are still some bubbles although ive not took it for a drive yet, but the tick over seems a lot smoother and doesnt "dip" like it was yesterday when we were looking, and neither did it want to falter and cut out like it did yesterday, and the bubbles are much less and dissapear for a bit and it kind of looks like the same air lock is traveling round/comming at that same time interval

i tried to bleed it, although i wasnt sure exactly how ? if i turn the key to on without starting, it doesnt pump any fuel through, like above only when its turning over/running

so do i loosen the nut that connects to the engine, and turn it over until the bubbles come through, then stop and do it back up ?

re the clutch, the bite is right in the middle , mate had a test of it yesterday and said its biting where it should and feels ok, although there is some clutch smell still it feels, and the very slightest bit of judder hardly noticable as the clutch gets to the top pulling away in 1st

But it does when you first switch on with engine cold and the glow lamp is lit. It won't pump fuel when you switch on IF the engine is hot. Unless you have a hot start fitted. Do you have some sort of a problem? I know you maybe trying to help, but with limited knowledge you just cloud the matter. The angle is WAMMERS by the way thank you.

Judder on clutch usually means oil on spinner plate.

Warmers do you understand mine does not let any fuel in to the filter hot or bloody cold in to the filter from!the tank pump with ignition turned on don't care what your test book says and just as He has said he's does not as well! Mine will only work when my engine is turning!

Poltsa yea I have an original Landrover spare new pump I'll dig bill out was about £150 yes you can have it if you want pm me your number if needed I am near you ok

It's wammers by the way. Then your vehicle has a fault, the fuel pump should come on with the glow plugs when engine is cold. The fuel pump relay is pulled down by the glow plug relay to prime the system for cold start. When the engine is HOT pump only works when engine is cranked or when running. Who mentioned Test book?

wammers, any info on exactly how to bleed the fuel line ? do i loosen the nut, then turn it over until the bubbles go through ? or do you thik they might/should dissapear with some driving if it was down to a faulty filter or the seal ?

Just loosen the banjo on the injection pump. Then if engine is cold get someone to cycle key to position II. With glow lamps on pump should give you flow when all the air has gone nip banjo up. If engine is hot you will have to get someone to turn it over to get flow. Or you could get someone to put a live from battery to socket 5 on fuel pump relay socket. Relay 12. Relay out of course, ignition off. Socket/pin five is the one that is opposite in orientation to the other three.

to bleied the system crack open the clear pipe that leads to the fip fuel inj pump apparently when the ignition is turned on the pump in the tank (should) pump the fuel out when all air is out close the nut back up but if like mine and my brother-in-laws it will only work ie pump when engine is turning with starter motor i know this is not what is supposed to happen but it dont so you will need two people .check the two pipes that go into the fuel filter as the o rings can wear and let in air . sorry but when at work its hard to type on a small iphone sorry wammers for spelling i have spoken to landrover and other people about the (intank) pump and the only reason they could give me for not working on ignition only was low pressure mine works and runs fine with no fualts even when nearly emty so hope this is of help joseph

No problem Joseph, but it should work when glow lamp is on.

ok thanks, il give it a go tomorrow, hasd anyone a part number/info on where to get new o rings and how to replace them please ?

defender300.. where are you located exactly ?

billinghurst you can buy a oring set any decent motor factors to replace the pipes that go into the filter remove by squeesing with your fingers the release buttons whilst pulling gently take o ring off and put new one on (same size) lubricate with oil i use or diesel replace in reverse order oops sory thinking of my van there are metal clips that you lift up the pipe can be a little stiff persivere make sure clip is fully released

yes it has metal clips, i removed one of them to see, but still couldnt get it apart ? didnt want to force/break it, so put it back, how exactly does it come apart ? any idea what size the o rings are, or is it a case of removing then taking it up there ? , by o ring, is it just a small rubber ring ?

not sure of the size i just match them up from an oring set that comes in varible sizes when you unclip the pipe you should see the o ring (small rubber ring) sitting on end of pipe the pipe can be a little stiff persivere make sure clip is fully released

Hi guys, read all this thread with interest:confused:. For my second post since joining; I just read the following. Hope it helps clarify matters on Fuel pump - diesel 2.5 dse:-

Rave Electrical Troubleshooting Manual 1999 Models onward

CIRCUIT OPERATION
Starting System
When the Ignition Switch (X274) is switched to
position III, the BeCM (Z238) grounds the starter
solenoid relay inside the Engine Compartment Fuse
Box (P125) which then energizes, applying battery
voltage to the Starter Solenoid (K136) and Starter
(M134).
Charging System
When the Ignition Switch (X274) is in position II, the
BeCM (Z238) turns the charge warning light on via
the datalink connection to the Instrument Pack
(Z142)
When the Generator (Z106) starts to produce power,
the BeCM (Z238) gets an input signal on Pin 15 and
turns off the charge warning light.
For the Diesel engine this signal is also used as an
input signal for the fuel pump relay inside the Engine
Compartment Fusebox (P125) to make sure that the
Fuel Pump (M109) is only supplied with power when
the engine is running.
If the Generator (Z106) fails to produce power, the
charge warning light remains illuminated.
