my DHSE is idleing at 900rpm, its an auto, all other autos i have driven have sat still when in D even when the brake is not applied, they would then move only on depression of the acceleration pedal, But my P38 moves as soon as the brake pedal is released which makes me think the idle is slightly high or is it just different with RR?

I'v got a 2001 DHSE auto and mine idles at 850-900rpm and it just moves when in D and 200 disco did the same

I agree, my DSE idles at around 850-900rpm and 'creeps' in D. Only time it doesn't do this is if im on a hill, then it will either be stationary or it can actually very slowly roll backwards but I never let it do that and have my foot on the brake.

Ive been in lots of automatic cars and all of them have always 'creeped' forward at lights or whatever, I always assumed this was normal in an auto vehicle.

Totally normal, every auto I've had has crept (lots of them) and not only is it normal but a positive advantage if you get caught in a traffic jam as you just ease off the brake and creep forward. Much better than on and off the clutch in a manual!!
 
it should creep- idle is 850-900rpm...The only exception i noticed was on some jap cars that have the CVT belt transmission, they do not always creep in D.

Actually, I was stuck in a bit of traffic yesterday afternoon, and I noticed that the idle every so slightly is not constant, I know it does increase a little when there is a load on the engine or battery, but with no lights on or radio or any other accessories on the idle is not perfectly constant- is this a characteristics of the engine or some else I will have to worry about?
