Hello I want to reward my P38 for passing MOT first time by making cubby box work correctly.
Thje damper bit has never been fixed to the lid since I got the car and have no idea what fits on the end of the wee steel spigot that locates the damper.
Can anyone help?

Off the top of my head, the arm fastens to a moulding on the back face of the glovebox. Mine was snapped off so I made a new bracket and used 2 allen head screws with nuts on the back (screws went through the glovebox from the inside).

fixed mine with a larger diameter, but equally short coarse screw. Has lasted so far for a yeart without problem

Very useful thread thank you.
What holds the gas strut to the wee peg in the lid?

I haven't got that sort of cubby-hole as mine is the budget one. My lid is manually operated!

I think it is a sort of ball and socket arrangement and it just pops over the peg. There might be a small screw to hold it in. If I see one I'll try and take a photo for you.

Just had a look at the struts on eBay. Looks like it is a little screw at each end. In Nick's post does he talk about a rivet? Is that the peg you're taking about? Sounds like maybe you have to get the peg out and then replace it with a self tapper of some sort. Be careful with the lid as they're only thin and the plastic gets very brittle. I'd get the strut first and then try to see how it mounts.
