Recently bought a 1995 P38 that ran OK for a few days, I parked it up for about a week to do a little work on it only to find when i came to move it the clutch pedal disappeared into the carpet, looks like someone had trouble previously as there was a used slave cylinder in the boot.
I had a nosey under the car to find slave cylinder was leaking so i removed it and tried the other one only to find it did the same???

Now having looked at the rave dravings it appears the pushrod is a lot shorter that the one on my car (looks like the one i have is a makeshift one made from a long bolt), it also actualy looks like the release arm is to far back, does anyone what length the pushrod should be and the distance of the arm fron the cylinder.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on?, seems a little strange to me as the car was running perfectly prior to me parking up to do the work.

Many thanks :)
Vic

This has probably been done because the clutch release bearing has failed where the clutch arm fork fits to it. Or the clutch arm it's self has worn on it's pivot. Box out for this i am afraid.

Thanks for the reply, what sort of a job is it to remove the gearbox, is it somethimg i could do myself on ramps or does it need to be done on a lift.
I have never done one before so any advice is appreciated.

It is a job you can do alone, but not recommended unless you really know what you are about. It can be do with four good stands, a good jack and an engine crane. Unless you have proper equipement don't even think about it.

Got all the equipment except the engine crane and i could borrow one from a mate.
I aint got the money to throw at somone else doing this so looks i have to have a go!!
I guess i will be on here for more advice as i go on so please bear with me

On further research it looks like the roll pins that hold the clutch release arm to the shaft have failed. Has anyone managed to replace them without full removal of the gearbox??

I would say very unusual failure. If they have you would have no clutch at all. Looking at RAVE replacing them without removing box is impossible.

The only thing to worry about when refitting the box is to get it aligned dead on. my dealer actually has specialised jig for this job. Its not essential but helps.

only trouble i had was finding the right clutch, is your the bmw 5 speed box. so i was told thats whatt i have in mine 4.0 se ex police
