Hello Fellow LRZ members. I've just this week finished building the 3.9 engine in my 1999 Rangie. Having discovered the original 4.0 crossbolted motor has been lost during the cars life with a previous owner. Anyway, the rear of my 3.9 block has been cone drilled to accommodate the crank sensor. My question is does anyone know if the position of the ckp sensor is critical or does the ecu use the cam sensor as a cross reference with the ckp to establish the posion of the engine. I assume the cam sensor is also fitted so as to be able to establish cam position as the timing gear/ chain wears.
The ckp sensor has no spacer fitted and has been rubbing against the flywheel between the reluctor ring. Before i tore the motor down to initially replace the cam and followers, I had a friends R A C laptop plugged into the obd2 and was picking missfires on No 1 cylinder. Everything is mechanically good engine wise with crank regrind, new bearings and rings etc. Cheers.
