Datatek........fill out your ideas for me, costs, how long to swop out, then set up again, practicable/cost effective?

The M57 looks like a straight drop in phsically and would easily mate to the ZF4HP24, If you leave the M51 EDC in place to keep the BECM happy, you only have to work out how to bypass the the M57 ECU immobiliser to get it to function, an in line pump from the L322 would also be needed. You can get a gearbox for £100 upwards and the engine, loom and ECU for less than a grand. Diffs are optional and you can find prices easily enough on the web.:D

Ok....so M57 engine is off what ( assume its trouble free-ish, more economical, more power?)

Bypassing ECU is O level physics or a 1st at Cambridge level?....;)

1/2/7/10 days work?

Thanks....so only swoppable to diesel P38........amount of time to complete all above?

P
You could do it on the V8, more parts needed though.
To do it on the diesel, apart from the ECU immobiliser code, an engine and gearbox swap ought to be a couple of days, bit of fiddling needed with gauge temperature sensor. The M57 is a lot more powerful and also more economical being common rail.
Not having done it, I do not know what pitfalls there may be, but it looks like a fairly straightforward transplant.
