Hi all I couldn't help noticing there are a few members on here who, like me, live in France - I have a UK registered 1995 P38 that I want to register over here, anybody know how to get hold of a certificate of conformity? I have registered a few vehicles over here now but nothing as old as 1995....

TIA

Cheers

I amy be wrong..but..i'm reasonably sure you dont need one within the EU. I've never had to get one, uk to denmark.

Hi there - we've registered many vehicles over here, although the oldest was a 1998. We've never had a problem with getting certificates of conformity - for the last Range Rover, simply phone Landrover UK and they will send one against the registration number, VIN number etc - they will charge you of course! Alternatively you can get the DRIRE to certify that it conforms, but this costs more and takes more time. You don't need both. I'm not aware that you don't need a CofC once the vehicle reaches a certain age. Hope this helps.:)

If it has a little plaque on the slam plate under the bonnet with a number beginning e* then all you have to do is visit the DRIRE who will produce the certificate of conformity it's instant and cheaper than the manufacturer. Then it's off to the prefecture. If the plaque doesn't have the e* number then you can try the DRIRE but you may need to get the certificate from Land Rover. Don't forget your Quitance fiscal first and your CT. Oh it's possible to mod the headlights to get through the CT. All cars require a certificate of conformity, otherwise it's a long process as I found out with my 1986 MR2 which had never been homlogated in France and Totota said F off.

France does does it their way as with just about everything. It's easier now than 10 years ago:)

I got my Certificate from LandRover in Paris. Cost 130euros if I remember, but that was about 6 yrs ago; s`pose it may have dropped in price..... or not.

Thanks all for the helpful replies, I'll see if it has the e* number and try landrover UK

So far I have registered 3 bikes and 2 cars so I know the system well, just thought there might be an issue as the RR is pre-2000 when the EU-wide regs came in

I am near St Yrieix la Perche, about 45mins south of Limoges

Even without the e* number it's still worth trying the DRIRE first, it will be cheaper than LR if they have it on their computer:)

Hi `96 P38 Diesel. Phoned them first then sent off cheque with request and VIN number. Haven`t got any details now tho`. (Got it registered here before it was 10 yr old, our dept hikes up the fee for a carte gris on older cars)

Thanks, suggests I should be able to get a CofC for my 95 which is good news.

Very suprised by your 10 year rule - in Dordogne, the fee for CG is halved for cars over 10 years old! And its based on horsepower - so just as well otherwise the fee for my Lotus Esprit V8 would have been over €1,000!!

Good afternoon Datatek

I was very interested in your comment about trying a direct approach to DRIRE for a certificate of conformity even without an "E" on the plate. Wish I had known of this possibility in 2008 when I paid LandRover, Paris 120 euros for an Attestation d'Identification for my P38.

I now need to register another UK-registered car and following your posting, I have been trying unsuccessfully to find a route into an appropriate department of DRIRE in order to try this out. There does not seem to be any form or formal procedure - is it just a matter of visiting them in person and asking nicely if the car in question is by any chance on their system ? It does not have an "E number" (no preservatives or artificial colouring ?) but neither is it particularly rare in France.

May I please sneak in a 2nd question, albeit slightly off-topic, that I have previously posted elsewhere in these august columns ? I live a good few miles South of you, in the North of the Lot and I have been trying to find an independent who can look after my P38. At present I have no choice but the main agent in Brive. Apart from the matter of main agent prices I am looking for someone who really knows about P38's, someone like Dakar in the UK (Good afternoon Barry).

Any ideas please or shall I just book a ferry crossing to Wilmington ?

Thanks for anything you can suggest.

Each department in France has slightly different rules, but in principle, visit the DRIRE with your Quitance Fiscal, puchase receipt Log book and CT and ask. With some cars they just pull the certificate of conformity up on the screen. All post 2000 cars will have the e* number, with that it's guaranteed. Most Peugeot, Citroen and Renault will also come up. If they can't help they will tell you to apply to the manufacturer for the C of C.
I know of no one that will touch a P38 in France, even the main dealer here is reluctant I'm told. I do all my own work so it doesn't bother me:D

Many thanks for such a quick response.

The car is a 1999 Fiat Barchetta and although there are quite a few in France, and originally sold here, I suspect that DRIRE will probably not have it. Looks liek I shall have to bite the bullet and pay Fiat France even more than Land Rover charge.

I too have yet to find anyone in France who will touch a P38 Perhaps I can find someone between Limoges and Brive willing to sort various problems. Who knows ?

I think www.landypoint.net are down your way, they stock lots of P38 stuff but are expensive, they are or were also agents for BBS Faultmate etc. I have the idea that they might do fault code reading but not sure what services they offer.:)

Took me 2 years and a special derogation from Paris to register my MK1b MR2 as it was never homologated in France. MR2 in French sounds like "merde" LOL At the time I was told it was only the third one to be registered in France.

Hi - first of all try FIAT UK for the CofC, may be cheaper or even free. My Subaru CofC was free from Subaru UK, as were the BMW motorcycle ones and the one for my KTM. Lotus charged me around £50. Land Rover France - best part of €200!! I have had no problem with the prefecture in Perigueux regarding English documentation either; generally they are a very helpful bunch in there.

Also - if you need help with your P38 let me know, I am gettting to know my way around mine pretty well, thanks in no small part to people like Wammers and Datatek on here, and have recently invested in a Nanocom so can do the fault code reading and resetting too (assuming yours is a diesel). I live between Brive and Limoges - close to Lanouaille in the north of the Dordogne. I would be happy to help if I can... just drop me a PM on here.

Best regards

Jerry

Good afternoon Jerry.

First things first. My apologies for not responding to your advice and kind offer sooner, but I have only just found your last post. A lot of forums to which I subscribe, send you an email direct when you have a response and I suppose I had sub-consciuously waited on hearing that way. That's my excuse anyway !

The agency that had promised to get my CoC for about 45€ did not perform and after grovelling to various French civil (admittedly, very civil) servants at different levels, I reached the conclusion that I would have to go through Fiat.

Sadly I had not thought of your idea of going to Fiat UK., before I paid Fiat Paris 145€. I don't even want to know what I might have saved if I had done so. I did try that with my P38, but LR UK insisted I go to Paris.

Unfortunately the RR is not diesel, just petrol and GPL, but I would still be happy to talk, so I will PM you about my P38 and whatever else, at least as soon as I work out how to do so on this forum.

Thanks again

Tony.

Must have been a bloody nightmare getting all the registrations done for all the tanks, Jeeps and stuff just before D day. :D:D:D
