With my spare wheel well full of LPG, I decided to try making a storage box. If anyone's interested, this the result so far. I used a sheet of WISAhex as used for van floors. I still need to paint the cut edges and decide on which stay-open method to use (strap & hook on tailgate frame or metal bonnet strut).

The height was chosen so that with the rear seat back rest folded and a 3/4" spacer on the floor to level it, there's a 5' 10" flat surface that I can sleep on if needed. Probably have to take the dog guard out first, though!

well done looks very well made hats off to you like that lots hope you get plenty of orders from the members on here.

Tony:)

Just thinkin "out of the box" here ..(Sorry No pun intended!!) .. would it not be better to "Hinge" the entire box at the rear as well .... (i'm assumng you will (at some time) want to gain access to the Do-nut Tank.

It would save Heaving out the entire box to access it...................Or Better still Hinge the bottom as well, then you could lift the lid, empty the box, lift the "Floor" of the box & access yer Do-Nut tank...

Just a thought ..... CRACKIN JOB though Colin, Well Done mate

Looks good... I was thinking of a simular solution as I have mud tyres on and the spare is a v.tight fit (when deflated) in the pare wheel well so wanted to have it pumped up ready to go.

Due to having two dogs... i didn't fancy them bouncing around so high up.... so I was thinking of fitting the spare wheel well on the px side set vertically like in the classics. I know I'll need to strip the side section and make some sort of way to hold the parcel shelf on.. but might be worth it.

Having seen your box though - I may just opt for your option with as suggested the ability to gain access to thr spare wheel well... good to keep other options of spare bat, tow ropes and sleeping bags etc... Do you have the drawings of your build at all?
