One thing after another.
Bonnet cable has snapped now after the bonnet would'nt open and trying to pull the cables a bit more has caused them to snap.
Whats the best way to get the bonnet up and replace the cables?

Cheers

Good idea......only problem is that the screws holding the top of the grille to the slam panel are only accessible with the bonnet open!!!!!

Lie flat on ya back under the car with a long lever or pry bar and see if you can pop the catch from underneath or get hold of the snapped cable and pull on it from underneath.

I had a similar problem with my Rangie some time back - it was a helluva job getting the bonnet latch open without smashing the grille. The latches, one on each side, are just behind the grille and there is no way of getting in from the top, unless you wreck the grille. We eventually got in from below, with the Rangie on a lift, via some deft twiddling with a specially-concocted long, home=made tool to push the bonnet levers forward. One of my cables was still intact, so it entailed getting the other lever free in order to open the bonnet.

A right nightmare it was  No easy fix, sadly, if you can't do it from below, then the grille will have to be sacrificed.:eek::doh:

Others can give you the answer but when you get it open I advise fixing a short length of plastic covered wire with a block connector at each end ( or something similar ) to the release mech and tuck the end behind the rad for emergency.
Haven't done it with the Strange Rover but propose to do so now because of your experience.
I did it umpty tumpty years ago with an MG Midget and it was my permanent bonnet release.
Good luck

Removing the bumper might aid getting in, you might be able to prise out the bottom lip of the grille

Done that with my P38 after spending a Sunday eveing trying to undo a mate bonnet, do the same with your tailgate incase you get locked out

you need to do it from underneath!!!
did mine last weekend.borrowed some car ramps from a friend and put the EAS on highest setting so i could sit underneath..then got a broom handle with a strong nail in the end and used that to push open the mechanism..
very fiddly! BUT DID IT IN AROUND 15-20 MINS OF SWEARING lol
oh and you will need a torch as its a bit dark and space is ltd...
thats the way i went as i could not see any other way and trashing the grille would not have helped anyway...

Interesting : as I said I haven't yet done it with the P38. Did it need two separate cables i.e.one for each latch or did one do the job ?
How did you do the tailgate ?

Cheers to those with the sensible replies.
Got a mate over who popped the bonnet up in seconds by pulling the outer cable aswell as the inner cable for the side that would'nt release.

DOH.

Cheers.
