I have never had a problem, same engine, make sure the small hose from the rad to the header tank is not blocked so it will bleed air out of the system. Squeezing the top hoses helps as well. Just read that you have put a new rad on, does it have a baffle fitted? Check by removing rad, turn it upside bown.Put a marble in one hose outlet and see if it rolls down to the other outlet. If it does then you have no baffle and you won't get circulation.

had possible head gasket failure tried that steel seal put water in expansion bottle seems fine but the air bubbles apear and bottle starts to overfow temp stays cold but if i put cap on soon creeps up to hot

Head gaskets very rarely go on these. If you are getting bubbles in the header tank it is not a good omen. Do you know anyone with a static tester? That would tell you more or less straight away if you have exhaust gas getting into the coolant which would be gasket. If you have system properly filled and can run engine from cold up to temp with cap off then all of a sudden it spews coolant head is cracked.

If no pressure tester - remove top hose (may need to confirm with an oil burner owner) and crank engine. If it spurts out then you know you have over pressurisation due to air been forced out of cylinder into coolant side. Get a mate to check while you do it by putting his face up to the hose to look inside - jokes on him;)

Or you can start it from cold for a few seconds, stop the motor and release the pressure cap on the header tank, if you have pressure your in trouble.
