Long story short - I decided to buy a new battery for the P38 as the one that is in there (despite being fine) is the wrong size - far too small - and I was going to bump that one to another vehicle with a dead battery.

Bought a huge battery yesterday that is the right size for the P38, came to fit it and the terminals are the 'wrong way around' - which means that I have to put the battery in with the terminals in at the front, which caused a problem when trying to connect the battery because the terminal leads aren't long enough!!

I went to our local car parts place today and all the batteries they have in there are in the same sense as the one I bought!

Looks like I'm going to have a long search to find one the 'right' way around... never had that on a vehicle before.

yep, the -ve cable is a bit of a pain to get off the body but get it off and reconnect when its on the battery, its on an inline type clip

Not sure I can be bothered with that! and I can only imagine at the price of the cable over here!!

Plus, the P38's are far too sensitive to electrical wobbles - I'd prefer to leave as much of the electrics alone as possible!!

There is no big hurry - battery is fine, just wanted to upgrade it to the correct size whilst I had the chance. Got plenty of time to find one that goes in the vehicle ok, so I think I'll just hang out until I can get one that fits the vehicle as is.

Cheers,

Matt

Can't you return the battery? You just need them to order the correct type. My local small factors had 4 in stock when i bought mine

For sure! I'll take the battery back next time I'm up that way - got it from the supermarket as it was the cheapest one around by far, and in one of the French mags I read recently they tested a range of batteries and found the ones from that supermarket outperformed even expensive branded ones double the price!

just fitted new battery to my 96 DSE its code no 644 terminals are the right way round ,bought it from local motor factors 61 squid sorted!
