Oh what a bad month, now I have problem number 3 to solve, pls help. Right the beast is a 1998 2.5 DSE Auto. Had some problems earlier this year with the Gearbox XY switch, turned out to be a dirty connection on the connector plug. Gearbix been fine except for the last month ive been having difficult engaging park, it goes as far a reverse and struggled to engage park, although after a couple shunts on the selector gate she would engage. Last night was a no go, the selector runs through the range fine and what ever gear is selected is correct and corresponds with the dash display except park. She will not engage into park. Even though the leaver is in park the rangie is in fact still in reverse, the red light on the selector gate is showing as reverse with the red selector light and dash is also showing reverse. I have tried in low range and problem is same all gears correct on display except no park. Occasionally I have noticed difficulty selecting gear 1 often it she sits in gear 2 until you get a little heavy handed with the selector leaver. Help needed please, is there a linkage or something that wears or needs adjusting.

Keith, is this linkage accessible from underneath the vehicle, is it an easy diy or autobox specialist? Thanks mate

Have you got the button pressed in all the way when shifting to park? If I start to release it early then the lever goes into P but the red selector light stays on R. Ensuring I've got a firm grasp if the button on the selector prevents this from happening.

This actually happened to me when I first got the car home. Parked up and went to get the wife and show off my new toy, jump back in and it wouldn't turn over. My heart sank and I had to leave it there all afternoon while we entertained guests. Later that afternoon I was sat in it and noticed the R showing on the dash, moved out of park and back in and it started first turn. I was pretty relieved about that I have to say.

Hi speedyyelloy, yes button fully depressed, and wont budge into park, thank god she starts in neutral otherwise I be buggered lol

Gun loaded with foul language lol, just hope I can adjust it, in the mean time I will avoid parking on hills lol
