Could be a variety of things sticky valve block, govenor clogged up with debris. Take a look at Ashcroft transmissions they have a FAQ area i think. Interior lights, have you tried pushing the centre switch on front interior light for more than five seconds, dash message will say interior light active. Or at least mine does, you can switch them off the same way, if someone has inadvetantly done that it maybe your problem.

hi,i had similar problems with my auto diesel, changed the g/box filter and re-filled with lucas atf, this has made a vast improvement to my g/box.pm me if you want and i will give you more details of the atf.;)

Thanks for the replies pressing light switch has cured problem need to investigate gearbox problem more have changed filter but cannot put lucas atf in as I live in spain and its not available do you have any more information on cures for stickey valve block or blocked govenor thanks again

Have similar issue with my box and have been advised to remove and clean the governor (although my local garage said they've done this a few times and it didn't improve things), I'll do this when I get chance and see what happens.

I changed my filter and oil but it didn't get any better, in fact if you look at Ashcroft website FAQ they are now saying that the oil can dislodge debris and make the problem worse.

I'm going to do the governor and if that doesn't work I'll just live with it until I need a new box

I am still experiencing heavy gear changes am thinking of looking at the govenor and valve block where are they and what do I need to look for

Hi, I have a strange problem with my automatic gearbox on a P38 4.0 liter.
It run only in "R" position, when I am putting it into "D", "3", "2", "1" it is not happening anyting... I have to mention that the car is 1999 model.
Any ideas for fixing this problem?

Sound daft but have you checked the UJ's on the front and rear prop, i had a clunky box and i found it was caused by the front prop UJ foookerd...

on Automatic Gearbox Range Rover I can explain that when the climb mountain roads with rubble and do not use gears to climb the mountain but with 1 or 2 or d
then in the middle of the road (the gearbox is overhead) what the problem is and how to act in this case as to why this problem occurs only during the summer please give me an answer

If the gearbox is "overhead" it must mean the car is on it's roof. This is usually caused by going round corners too fast:behindsofa::hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi

I'm afraid I can't quite make sense of what you're saying.

Repeating it numerous times isn't really helping either.

I think you're saying that your gearbox is overheating? But I don't understand the rest of it.

Consider low range would be better idea than high drive 1 and 2.

the oil is overheating in if the sensor can be trusted
.
if the sensor is replaced and it still indicates overheating then a custom oil cooler required and electric fan.

i think he is saying that the g/box overheats when he goes up the mountain road in 1st,2nd or just drive.but it only overheats in the summer.he needs an g/box oil cooler,or his one on the car needs cleaning.
