Hi everyone,
Driving to work which is about 10 miles from where i live i got to the usual traffic lights and waited the usual amount of time for them to change and off i went,the rangie after taking off a few yards just instantly died as if someone flicked a switch,pushed it with much effort into a side road and tried to start it again but all that would happen was that you heard the starter turning but thats it,everything else works fine but engine would not fire at all,walked to work,,, at break time 3 hours later i went to check on it and tried to start it and it fired up first time,drove it to my work place,,,10pm home time,,,3 miles from home it died but this time while struggling to get it to the grass verge the alternator fault message came on,,tried again to start it but same thing just heard the starter whiring,,got it toed home with my brothers help,,straight on to landyzone and got some useful help on how to check the battery and alternator and connections but everything checks out fine,,,what next any help would be great thanks
 
If it starts runs and you have checked charging and it is correct- bcem plug corrosion is common. Do a search
 
I had the same message when i fired my DSE up a couple of week so the neighbour could get his car on his drive, i didnt do anything about it and thought sod it thats a job for tomoz but i totally forgot as it never displayed it again, Sorry it doesnt help youbut im sure mine will say it again when im miles away
 
Are you 100% sure the alternator is ok ? Is the Tacho (Rev. counter) working ok ?
Check all earths and power connections. Check engine bay fuse box for signs of burning and corrosion..get your nose around it and check for burning smells. Undo the 4 drivers seat bolts and tip the seat backm check for security and corrosion around the Becm connectors-clean them with Switch or Contact cleaner (Available from Maplins) NOT WD40 type stuff.

That sounds like it died due to a low battery, leave it a while battery recovers enough to start and run for a while until the load pulls the battery voltage down again.
Put a voltmeter on the battery with the engine running, you should see the voltage rising to about 14.4 volts if the alternator is charging correctly. The charge light on the dash is operated by the BECM which monitors the alternator.
My money is on the alternator:D
