My 2000 P38 doesn't seem to have any suspension at all. If I go over speed bumps at anything above a crawl, I can feel the car bottoming out. At present there are no lights showing on the suspension switch at all. If the compressor is not working, would the lights work? I think the switch could be a separate issue, but I'm open to any/all advice.

If there's no lights on the switch then it's a safe bet that you're driving along on bump stops.
Beyond checking fuses and checking if the pump is running, you're probably best getting diagnostics on it otherwise you could be chasing your tail forever.
EAS unlock suite is free but you'll need a cable making up for it.
Look in the technical section for wammers eas post.
Go through his checks and come back with the results and we can advise further.

I'd get underneath and check your air bags aren't torn or holes in any way first. Then a good mooch around under the bonnet while it's running to see if the compressor functions?;)

Try the height selector switch to see if the vehicle goes up and down, making sure all the doors tailgate and bonnet are closed. Also checking the height immobiliser switch is not engaged. That's the switch next to the height adjuster, the icon looks like a flat tyre. this may take awhile if the tank is completely empty and the pump is worn. If no joy with that see the posts above for good advice,

If he's driving around on the bump-stop then he'd better have a strong back and no dental fillings.

could be very simple and cheap..
some fault finding needed...
compressor running? hot /warm?
Inspection of air springs?
