Hi all, Got my Disco pranged last week and the repairers had no cars for me. So I went and bought a P38 auto  ( mad yes ) DSE P reg., with the BMW 2.5. In my part of the sticks there were no discos or anything except auto! First of all its in good condition... really good... but its lacking power on hills and take off. Been told all are the same unless you chip it. Any body out there been there done that? Or what else could it be? Any advice would be very much appreciated and put to the test. Thanks all.

Change the engine oil and have no mechanical mercy, the standard diesel isn't as fast as a v8 but if you keep them above 2500 rpm they're ok.

If you need more power fit a PSI Powerbox they cost around 350 GBP.

They are a bit gutless until the turbo kicks in. Chipping or powerboxes can't do much about this, they help more once you're moving. Try just kicking it hard as you pull away and using the cruise once you're rolling.

About £300 for a PSI powerbox which seems to be the favourite. It depends on whether you're going to keep it or just burn the money on lower fuel consumption and work the engine a bit harder.

I've just spotted a second hand Rimmer Bros powerbox on ebay for £220 if you're interested. No link I'm afraid, I'm not that much of a geek.

There do improve when they have warmed up you know.

I have a PSI powerbox I have removed from my dhse. Not bad once you get above about 2000 rpm but no different before that. I am thinking of selling it and having the ecu chipped. I recently cleaned out the intake manifold and intercooler and that made a hell of a difference to the acceleration and pulling away, probably as much as the powerbox except it is across all revs.

Hi, Well all that info is great. I changed the oil the day I got it and checked all levels and will also change all oils. Last week I cleaned the Disco's Intercooler to no avail as it got shunted the day after. Energy 8...Will go for the Power Box if its for sale... I think, if it fits mine... whats your price?
Thanks for the feed back.

Hi Mate, cant answer your prob but have just bought this year a 2000 model 2.5 dhse with 120 k on her and she flies, and its all standard, 2 owner with full dealer service. Regards Andy.

Make sure the MAp sensor rubber tube is in place and not split, It goes from the underside of the inlet manifold to a little gadget on the fuel filter housing.:)
