Can you get a live trace of it using hawkeye or eas unlock? Not sure if they do it or not but nanocom does and it makes it very easy to see what's going on.
Is this not just normal levelling? Does it just do this for a few seconds then stop?
Mine certainly doesn't hit the target bang on at height change, it normally overshoots a tad then settles to the correct height.

Hawkeye gives me live data. The pump is shutting off as I get zero error betwixt target and actual height. Then straight away I'm getting error readings anything between two and eleven. The car moves trying to level I guess and of course the pump fires up until zero error appears for a few seconds. I can see the target heights are as I input in EAS unlock. With the engine switched off nothings happening at all.just back from lunch decided for the hundredth time to check for leaks. Put to extended height and the pump shut up and didn't kick in again. Tried standard height and the same old story. Pump, stop, exhaust, vehicle move, pump.........Also back to nearside a couple of centimeters down. Pumped up and at rest. I'm becoming deflated.

The compressor circuit is separate and has nothing to do with height settings. All the compressor circuit does is fill the tank as and when required based on readings from the pressure switch. It will run only when engine is running. No height changes should take place with any door open. If compressor is run from empty tank with a door open it should fill the tank in five or six minutes and stop. Car should jump to selected setting as soon as the door is closed. Compressor should then run to replenish tank and then stop. Unless there is a leak compressor should not need to run again until and upward height change is made. The compressor should not need to run whilst driving other than when the car is recovering from motorway to standard. When the car goes up first thing that rises is rear then front then there will be a small adjustment stage to level car. After that compressor should not run again until pressure falls below 120 PSI.

I started from cold this morning with a door open. Pump ran for a minute and shut up. Nothing happened for ten minutes while I read the gospel. I shut everything up and the pump fired up. With finger over exhaust not even huurgh. As soon as the pump cut out it nearly blew my finger away. And then back onto the routine. Pump run, exhaust blast pump run. Nothings happening now on switch off as before when I got exhaust and lowering/levelling. I've remeasured and we're on an even keel. So, I've made some progress and no movement overnight, either. Everything seems fine except for the pump running too much. I've just checked the post. No patience as yet.

The pump should run up to about 33% of the time. That's it stated duty cycle. It will top up, maybe puff as it hits the limit and cut out. Then repeat. You can take a trace with the Nanocom and monitor this.

Why would the compressor run if no height change had used air. Compressor will not run unless pressure drops. No height adjustments are made when the car is being driven unless it is the standard to motorway or motorway to standard cycle. The only reason for the compressor to run whilst driving otherwise would be if it was feeding a leak.

The valves are constantly opening and shutting as it drives along as you go around corners and such. Or so my traces indicate. Whenever it has opened a valve it seems to want to top the tank up. MInd you, I don't think this one is moving, is it?

You have a problem. Think you maybe confusing sensor reading changes as suspension is depressed and relaxed. But no air is released or added. Unless there is a leak.

I've left it alone, now till Monday. I also think that you chasps have gone beyond the call of duty. I admit there's one thing I've overlooked. The receiver tank underneath. I've checked and replaced suspect ailines to it and renewed the bung and checked entry and stopper points for leaks. I haven't checked the tank itself.I haven't replumbed it from the valveblock to the rear nearside wheel arch, which I'll do. Now you've educated me to level one I can see that the system needing to be replenished as it is must be caused by a leak. I've shot some footage( I'm sure you know what a pump sounds like running and then stopping for a few seconds, though) and done the basic tests as per the gospel according to wammers. If all is as it should be with the doors open and stationary overnight and the problem only arises whilst the engine runs, I can see it must be something to do with the tank which gets isolated with the engine off.(does it?) For the pump to run 90% of the time there must be not only a leak but a mighty one, but only when the engine's running. Either that or it's being told to run by something that doesn't know what it's talking about. God knows how you've managed to stay with this thread as you have.(my patience hasn't arrived yet BTW) We bought our caravan from Reads in Blackburn where we go each year to get it serviced and to visit friends and relatives of the wife who's a Lancashire girl. We have relatives in Leyland. So, medication and supervised excursions permitting, there'll be a wee dram on offer at the venue of choice in Preston. Sorry, Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, I'll just send the money. A pint for wazzajnr and I think myfirstL322 must be in another wing here. I'll ask matron. Very best regards. P.

I sneak through Lancs once in a while when Wammers isn't looking! I'll be up soon but I'm not saying when. ;-)

I mustard mitt, as per @Grrrrrr mine does seem to do some levelling whilst driving. I just thought that was normal.
I'll have a look at the traces again and check to see which valves were opening whilst driving.

By helping you, we can also learn and that's why we stick with it.
It also helps others in the future.

Why would it? It is at it's ride height, the only thing that happens is that the suspension moves through it's travel to smooth the ride. As that happens sensor readings will change, that is normal. It does not need to add air unless there is a leak.

I thought it was just us awake at this time in the morning. We get our porridge, bed pans and bed baths starting at 6a.m. Anyway all drinks are off. Sorry. Matron's just reminded me that we, nor the car chiefly, are likely to be leaving the barn. She said look on the bright side, Ed China will come along in 30 years time, discover it and put it on a wheeler dealer feature length episode for Mike Brewer to flog it for twopence.

Ed China knows as much about mechanics as i know about nuclear physics. ;)

As a relative newcomer to Rangie air suspension, I can understand Wammers' comment about when and why the system operates, as I've worked on truck air suspensions in my days as a Scania mechanic.

The height sensors tell the ECU about the attitude of the car, but there is a time delay between that signal coming in and the ECU directing air or releasing air to make a change.

The compressor is purely keeping the reservoir topped up as directed by a pressure switch, I don't see anything in the operating modes that enables the ECU to directly operate the compressor on its own.

My P38 is level and steady on its wheels, while we are working on it, it has not gone down at all, which is what we would expect.

Praps, but he's a better presenter than Claudia Winkleman who gets £250,00 p.a or is it £500,00 ? You guys are my heroes, now. Can I have autographed selfies? Out into the conservstory for me, now. It's raining so I can't be wheeled out into the grounds.(sorry lister. we both posted at the same time. )

Claudia Winkleman reads from a script just as he does. ;)

He's also no longer on Wheeler Dealers. To be fair, I'd have murdered Brewer years ago with his chirpy cockerney banter.
