Hi all
I have a p38 4.6 with a tappety noise but only when the engine is warm
On start up its fine ..I changed the oil and filters several months back.but no difference
It does have an LPG conversion
It seems to be from the left hand bank of the engine while looking from the front
Like a metallic tapping on idle but less noticible when revving or under load
Are there any members more clued up local to me ??
To have a listen and advise
I'm in hornchurch essex
Here's hoping
Regards Mark

Do you have any other problems such as coolent loss or overheating, If so then you may have a slipped liner. Have you checked the cats because these are known to make a simular sound when they start to brake up.

I had a tappety noise which turned into a slight chuffing noise which turned into the noise of a steam train my engine is now in bits on garage floor waiting for new head gaskets etc , the gasket split between 2 and 3 on the left bank so I didn't lose coolant . You check this by start up on cold stick your hand just under exhaust at that point you may just feel it . Good luck hope your luck is better than mine !

hopefully just an ageing tappet/cam combo - replacement can be held off with change in oil grade.
