hi all can someone just confirm for me a few details please .
today i fitted a replacement engine in my 1997 4.6 hse due to the old unit overheating , the engine i used was totally unmolested s/h unit which i fitted complete with its own ancillaries , with the exception of the plug leads , i fitted my own magencor leads which are brand new .
the problem im having is when i turn it over on the key to start it it sounds as if the leads are on wrong , i.e spitting back when i fitted the leads i went of the cylinder numbers marked on the mounting bracket for the coils and used number 1 cylinder l/h as i look at the engine from the front with number 2 cylinder being the first on the right and so on is this correct ? can someone confirm please many thanks.

thanks for the reply , i guessed that may be the case ! the engine came from a later model but is still a gems engine , as i said i went of the numbers stamped on the coil mounting bracket which were both identical on both engines so i assumed this would be correct  .

problem solved , number 1 is on the r/h side looking from the front , not the left as i origanally thought    .
it had been a long day though ( well thats my excuse ) :) :)
