I have a '00 p38 4.6 vogue, it seems to run fine for a couple of hundred miles, then all of a sudden the heater starts to blow cold, and within an instant the temp guage goes up into the red, i have renewed the thermostat, the water pump was new a few months back, and has been inspected, the heater matrix has been flushed, and a sniff test has been performed... but still the problem persists, its strange the car runs so well for a while before it happens... could it be a head gasket prob or cracked block???

Any suggestions would be much appreciated...

ps. has anybody used the 'ironrite' flush, to seal any cracks, i've heard good things about it...

Very prone to airlocks.

The method I used was to undo top hose and top up with coolant then replace hose and tighten clip. While still cold give a good squeeze with both hands to expel any air.

You may need to do this more than once.

Test again after running for a short while .

Good Luck

also open all the vents inside the car and have the heater on hot and maximum settings this allows heat to flow which will elimante airlocks when you top up the system.

Yeah, I used it a few weeks ago and it certainly seems to do the biz

i also get the drivers side facing up hill and on a ramp( bit of old tree trunk) to raise the expansion tank as high as poss. mine has lpg and the pipes are a little suspect to say the least.

also take the small pipe off the radiator at the top and wait for water to come out.

Thanks for the responses, will be trying to sort it this afternoon, it just seems odd it runs so well for over 200 miles then does it!!! im pressuming if it were a head gasket or porous block the problem wouldn't be so intermitent?
Thanks again will update later...
