Hi all,

I've been reading lots on here, not posted much I'm afraid, but got lots of really great information !

I currently have a great running P38 4.6 V8 that always starts realy easily and runs like a train, but I've noticed it won't start when hot, but leave it to cool down for half hour, and it fires straight up.

I've read here it may be the ECU temp switch, so I've just purchased one from ebay, but I'm damned if I can find out where it is on the engine !

Can anyone help?

Cheers
John

Not sure I’m afraid. The others will know.

Have you looked at RAVE?

I would have thought CPS (crank position sensor) but I do come out with daft stuff on times.
Easy to test when it plays up warm - freeze spray it
if it works straight away bobs your uncle aunties cousin that’s the culprit

What year? The early one has two temp sensors, one small one for the gauge and the larger one as per your photo, with two pins the later models have one sensor with four pins that does both applications. at the front of the engine.its the brown connection between the alternator and the oil filler cap.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the help.
I changed the sensor on Saturday, tested it afterwards by running it up to temp, and it restarted straight away!
Tried it running, off, restarted a half a dozen times to make sure, and it starts first turn now, hot or cold.

Amazed that a £6.50 part can ruin an otherwise enjoyable car !

Cheers
