To be fair it takes 2 to have a stoopid argument.

Presumably if you were to fit an incadescent bulb then the blinkers and sounders etc work fine..?
Well, yes...................:). I'm unconversant with LED lamps and I'm unsure that the bulb holders accomodate either. If they do, then I will. Thanks for the constructive observation. And thanks again to those who've helped me.
 
Right. Stand by your beds. I've tidied the hair ball up that was my wiring and paid attention to individual grounding. I put a bulb across pin 1and earth with LH blinker on the go and the trailer icon blinked on the dash. Therefore the caravans LED blinkers must be presenting insufficient resistance for the monitoring to believe there's no Caravan blinker. I'm reluctant to leave it at that as enough stuff malfunctions without volunteering. I might put a redundant bulb Somewhere after the tow socket. But that's my feedback if it's of use to all who've helped me. Best regards Peter.

Oh yeah, P38 doesn't like LEDs as they don't draw enough. You can get LEDs bulbs with a resister to pull enough current to make the BECM happy.
 
Righty oh. One more put to bed. The van lamps are units that just yank out in one piece. At least I've spruced the loom up. It's off to see if I can get replacements as you suggest. I doubt it somehow. Caravan forums aren't like this one. I'd be appearing dafter than I am already to say that nothing's suffering because the P38 monitoring doesn't pick up anything happening with the caravan blinkers. I daren't do anything to the van as a low flying cloud nulifies the guarantee. Am I right in thinking that the monitoring knows when a greater significant current is drawn over and above what is recognised as standard spec? If so, could a bog standard bulb be plugged in somewhere when towing to trick the BECM? Obviously not permanently or the trailer icon would blink forever. Or doesn't it matter? It does to me, though. Without it I have to return to therapy and we all know what that means.

Yes, it monitors current so sticking a bulb in or resistor would do the trick. Bit pointless having LED bulbs if you need a second one though?! If you look on the Bay you will see LED lamps that have the resistor already built in to trick the BECM so you just unplug the old one and plug the new one in. Mind you, I am not sure what the caravan bulb holder is like or what the wiring is built to take. Chances are they probably cut it to a minimum? Maybe having a flashing bulb in your boot is the least bonkers option!
 
I think standard indicator bulbs are 21watt so 1.8amp only.
The wiring from the plug on the van is normally wired to a junction box somewhere then the lights are wired internally on the van.
If you find the junction box and add a resistor across there, the wiring from the plug will be ample.
I don't know the wattage of the led bulbs so I can't calculate the resistance required.
Obviously, using this method means that even if the bulb isn't working you'll still get the telltale.

Got to be in the car. Can't even break wind in the caravan without nullifying some clause in the guarantee. Now I know what's going on with the becm I'll experiment with bulbs and resistance. Now to the matrix foot bath.
