You can test it by sticking a broom handle in the fan when the engine is cold and it should stop it. Of course if the viscous unit is siezed you will either break the fan and/or the broom handle, so its something I've never tried myself!

Or break your hand, arm and any one stood within a 10metre radius should watch out for splinters and flying broom handles.........! :eek::eek::eek::eek:
 
A cool running diesel will use more fuel and have a shorter life, you need to find out if it is really running cool or if it's a sensor/guage problem.

i would recommend going for the 2.5dt p38 you will have less problems than you will if you buy V8 i would also recommend an auto they are smoother and more reliable than a manual. with that one your looking at sounds like there is air in the coolant system it could be a pinhole in a pipe or somthing daft i would check if the cap on the expantion tank it tight
