:(Hi all, not needed the transfer into low range for a good while and when I came to do a change it would not happen, so. When the H gate was moved to Lo Neutral. amber lights flashed and alarm sounded, after about 10 sec's the "Select Neutral" appeared on the dash display.
Checked all the fuses, all OK. Put Fuse No 11 in nothing. Removed ratio motor and tested with 12v - runs both ways with ease. Gripped Transfer box change shaft with fingers and the rotation from Hi to Lo was easy and smooth. Plug/socket clean and good connection. Where to look next.

Is it the Ratio motor s/w's. is it the Transfer box ECU, or anything eles that I may have overlooked.
As an aside the Transfer box and the gears in Hi range are all as soomth and quite in operation whether being gentle or giving it some stick.

Is there anyone out there who can point me in the right direction?

Thanks in anticipation. Chris

transfer box ecu is the most likely cause , you tested every thing else.stepper motors in my experiance fail rarley unlike the ecu which fails if left in a dormant state for ages then asked to do its job. if your lucky you can take the unit apart and resolder the dry joints, i got away with it on a friends rangey once. luckily there not that dear, about 140 quid from a main stealer i seem to recall.

Hello arron beast unleashed,

Thanks for the reply. will the vehicle run without the transfer box ECU ?. Or is it one out one in, replacement or repair. The logic is if wont repair then it will be the bus to get a unit. Also is there any mileage at this stage in trying to get a diagnostic check? I have to say everything else on the P38 works well.

its just a straight swap, one out one in like you say. if you power the stepper motor back to high range with a power probe or jumper wire the warning on the dash will stop, then you can buy a new unit at your leisure.

Cheers for that, am now looking for a new one at the right price. Not too sure about the ones off E Bay, perhaps you know of somewhere?
