Well ive done a bit of reading and it seems that the m57 mk 1 will work with the top of my 2.5 pump fitted and bcm re programed to 3.0 ltr. Or have i read it wrongo_O:confused:
 
Not sure programming the BCM to 3l is an option? Assume BCM = BECM?
 
Somthing to do with injector timing i think. I believe if i use my pump electrics/top it should recognise it and it can be re calibrated for 3ltr
 
Even if the BECM can be reprogrammed, an older generation non common rail 3.0l isn't going to be much more powerful than a well sorted 2.5 so probably not worth the effort.

If you're going to the trouble of taking an engine out and fitting another, trying to get more power by using a bigger, non standard engine will open up a world of pain. For example, insurance will be more difficult.
A 2.5 well sorted shouldn't be that much less powerful.
Have you checked the quoted torque and bhp figures for the two motors?

Not yet. As said early on the old block has a crack so was just thinking of the options. Thanks for the heads up anyway
 
P38 BECM has no option for 3 litre engine. Also unless you also fit an HP 24 box, the power and torque will destroy your HP22 PDQ with a lot of towing.

I don't know to be honest. Beyond my ken. Given the FIP seems to wear on the 2.5 I might be tempted to upgrade the FIP altogether. I would imagine the EMS (Engine Management System) could be recalibrated with a different map for the 3l easily enough with a new chip. Not sure how that works with the BECM.

@N2O would know better. He seems to upgrade pumps and play around with the diesels a bit.

Good point from Wammers on the HP24 box. I think @ovalandrover has upgraded his to an HP24 box though so tjhat can be done. Might need a different prop shaft?
 
New plan. K seel and an epoxy patch. Run it for a month or two. If it still weeps stick weld crack and then weld a cast patch over that. 77 sticks at 3/16.
 
Hey, ever heard of JB Weld?

I 'welded' the casing of an outboard engine which had dissolved around the water tube grommet, it was either £700 plus the Vodka for a new casing or re-cast it with aformentioned gloop and spiffing new bastard and smoothing file, £6 later I was opening the vaseline jar:eek::D

Is that a type of epoxy. Think i read somthing on it today looking through the options
 
Read up. Jb is an epoxy. And its good. Just bin on the tube watchin vids on it. Off to holfrauds tmoz.
