Engine gone in the old girl so. Thinking of going for something a bit bigger that will slot in without to much hassel. So what are the options if any.

Thanks for that pal. Was just wondering as they are a little under powered.

My 2.5 can in no way be described as under powered. Mind you it is chipped, but If you want a racing car buy a Porsche. :D:D

I have seen photos of the M57 Td6 L322 engine shoehorned into the P38.....

Just limped back from france with a cracked block. 850 mile of pain

If your 2.5 block is cracked it is the first one i have ever heard of to do that, they are reasonably bullet proof. Far more likely to be the head.

BMW's M57 3.0 Diesel engine is fits a P32 bell housing I am pretty sure?

Only know because I'm wanting to put a N57 with the BMW's 8 speed auto into a 130! :D

Trust me its the block. Its got a crack about an inch long runing from the center core plug under the exhaust manafold above the engin mounting

I think i need to have a proper look at the options and implications. Think around 3 ltr will be enough as its just for the towing capability on motorway hills, fedup of it trying to change down at 60

The v6 turbo diesel in the merc combined with their autobox is a stunning towing powerplant. If I could make it work I'd do it in a heartbeat. The merc is just a bit light on the back end and the caravan bosses it around a bit in windy weather. Got more torque than the moon though!
Oh, I can dream!

There is a company that will fit you a nice tdv6 but it's about 6k, the td6 is an easyer fit mechanically but the elastictrickery is the pain.

Thing is, I've got a 3l merc that's not got a lot of value left but it's a bit skittish on the back end with the van on. If I could transplant the engine and box into the rangy without problems, I'd do it tomorrow. 235bhp and more torque than a Ferrari california from about 1700rpm. Couple that with the only auto box I've ever known to work well with a diesel and it would make an awesome towcar!

Those injectors on the newer V6s seem to be fragile and expensive. Frankly I'd try and find a decent second hand M51 or maybe try a decent low mileage 4.0 and LPG it.

Not sure how to tie the BECM into a newer engine. It is bad enough with the original unit!
