I recently bought one which had been modded to have coil springs thinking it was more reliable than the air system, but have researched it and the air shocks give a much better ride and are adjustable for different situations and as previously mentioned the kits to overhaul the pump and valve block are inexpensive.

More hassle is the electrical and electronic side, I have taken half the car apart trying to sort the non working radio, trying to get a good wiring diagram now to get to the bottom of it!

Back of the RAVE manual. Free to download and will save your bacon.

List of things to fix is growing :)

Passenger lock not unlocking with rest of locks
Remote central locking does nothing
Headlining saggy in rear corners
Rear suspension drops to bump stops when parked
Indicator stalk sometimes won't indicate right
Climate control has book symbol and makes nasty clicking noise
Passenger window grab handle fell off in my hand when I let girlfriend have a drive
wrong size tyres
Heater not as hot as I'd like
heated seats don't work
Aftermarket kenwood dvd player radio needs throwing in bin
Arm rest cubby lid loose
Steering has a rediculous amount of free play.

even with all those faults I seem to be getting more attached to it with each drive. :)

Waiting for bits to arrive so I can get fixing

List of things to fix is growing :)

Passenger lock not unlocking with rest of locks - Burnt out lock motor - common
Remote central locking does nothing - possible unplugged remote RF unit to prevent battery drain - common
Headlining saggy in rear corners - common
Rear suspension drops to bump stops when parked - tired air bags, inspect and replace, budget on doing fronts too if they are the same age - common
Indicator stalk sometimes won't indicate right - time to get the multimeter out, lights controlled via the BeCM - not so common, but also not rare
Climate control has book symbol and makes nasty clicking noise - Blend motors most likely - common
Passenger window grab handle fell off in my hand when I let girlfriend have a drive - fat bastid :D:D:D:D
wrong size tyres - Doh.....
Heater not as hot as I'd like - as above, Blend Motors.....bugger of a job but doable - common
heated seats don't work - element split, simple repair - common
Aftermarket kenwood dvd player radio needs throwing in bin - good......
Arm rest cubby lid loose - common, needs 'un-riveting' and bolting back in place
Steering has a rediculous amount of free play.- common-ish, check all ball joints....if it turns out to be the swivel hub pins, thats a bit more specialised.

even with all those faults I seem to be getting more attached to it with each drive. :)

Play in steering, play in column to box link. Or play in steering box, (easy to adjust) plus as Ant said.

Missed one...pressed the hi lo ratio button...went into lo ok but wouldn't come out so had to remove transfer box control motor and change it manually. Dash display still thinks I'm in low ratio.

Cheers for the pointers...All looks reasonably straight forward, shame previous owner let all those things build up I like to try and sort stuff on cars as soon as it goes wrong

Looks like you are going to have fun. Signal as to whether in high or low comes from ratio motor itself. May need stripping and contacts cleaning if your lucky that may sort it.

I left the motor disconnected as I wasn't sure if it would try and stick it back in low if I plugged it back in. Probably just the shock of the button being pressed for first time in years, previous owner said he didn't know what that button did as he'd never pressed it before!

Well if you left it unplugged then the ECU is not getting the high ratio signal from it. So it will indicate it's last stored position.
