Can anyone help please. Just had some problems that lasted for 3 days:
engine would cutout completely at low revs, also at higher revs when running but kept going (just but with lack of power). During the same time period, the car would sag when stopped, then lift up when started and continue as normal. Also the fuel gauge when down twice, then returned to normal (as if the ignition had been switched off). Most worrying was would the car stop all together !
Anyway after 3 days it is now all OK again - don't know why, so trying to think back to when it started, it was some time after I drove through a large puddle (ok semi-flood) at speed, and there are signs of water splashes on all the components inside the engine compartment, on the near-side. So I suspect that some water and condensation got into somewhere.
But these are supposed to go through water, my Disco was never any problem. Is there some area of the RR that needs to be waterproofed ?
Thanks in anticipation. Andy.

:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughia p38 and water do not mix my friend, going through at very low speed should be ok,but NOT at high speed.too many electricals on them that do not like water.;)

Thanks gemsdad, I suppose I hoped the RR would be like my Discovery only with a bit more luxury, seems that's not the case. I think I may trade in for another Discovery. Due to living in a rural area it would probably be more practical. :-(

Check the shields are in place under the wings (I've never had that problem) also that the suspension plugs on the height sensors are firmly home and maybe a bit of waxoyl over them to be sure.

Also make sure the waterproof cover is on the rear of the alternator covering the terminals.
Sounds like a loose / exposed connection somewhere.

All fixed. Everything is now working fine. I have also since been through deep water no problems. It was.........

A faulty fuel pump !!!

Dont ask me how that could also have upset the suspension, but since a new pump was fitted the car has been transformed. Smooth, faster and no other strange faults occurring. :)

Did you get it replaced by a dealer or do it yourself ?

sorry delayed reply - it was a dealer, under 3 months warranty. BUT......

now 3 months later and.....same symptoms have started again. Local garage who know P38s said error code definitely point to crankshaft sensor. So changed this but still same problem - where to go next ? :-(
