Are all the vacuum pipes sound? They suffer from degradation where they rub various components, causing leakage. If there's no vacuum, there's nothing for the boost solenoid to operate the actuator with.

Hi nodge yes replaced every single hose on the vac side with silicone vac pipe before the trip all placed so as not to rub as there was 3 places that the original had rubbed almost through.
Cheers

will obd the map sensor when I get a chance to see what pressure its reading .. Any idea the values I'm looking for.

kept an eye on turbo boost ( in m.a.p. values ) today .. 30 mile country A roads drive
( via a 'scangaugeII' )

all values are aproximate .. except 'at idle' ..

m.a.p. values in p.s.i.

14.7 at idle .. ( shows less when above sea-level .. 14.1 in my street )
15 / 16 along flat .. 30 / 40 mph
16 / 19 along flat at 50 / 60 mph
26 at a medium overtake in 4th gear
26 at medium acceleration uphill 1 mile in 5th gear .. 50 to 65 mph
28 / 30 foot to floor uphill .. 1 mile .. 3k rpm ..
( may have seen 32 on one previous occasion in similar circumstances at 3k+ rpm )

i think 32 is about the max. before the ecu will cut power to prevent damage ..
( or adjust the turbo vanes to reduce boost )
that's just a possibility from reading articles ..
no idea what the actual value is as set by land-rover or bmw ..
but .. there is a max boost level allowable by the ecu before it reduces boost or limits / cuts the power

if the turbo vanes are stuck in a 'high boost angle'..
then i'd assume that the max. value might occur at lower throttle-position / rpm / acceleration scenarios ( or something like that : -)

for turbo ' boost ' levels .. detract 14.7 psi from above values ..

The P1470 code is pretty generic and can be anything from a leaking vacuum line to a knackered turbo. I had one back in November and it was a cheap fix. The vent solenoid filter had got water in it.

Got my new i930 wizardry in a box today. Fault code p1470 only code logged. Time to get fault finding

the vacuum chamber and the one-way valve need to be checked before you go any further. Stick a vacuum pump on it pre and post the one-way valve and see if it will hold -1bar.

Cheers will make the test gear up. Is the one way valve in the main line up stream from the connection from chainber to main line

Hi nodosh
Vac test
First pic test vac 800 mbar pipe disconnected from turbo boost solenoid and clamped. Pipe taken off fromvac-chamber feed and connected to test gear . Pressure lose is 1 mbar per second.
Second test every thing connected and again tested fromvac chamber pressure lose 10 mbar per second.
Same test done this time with vent filter clamped off. Pressure lose 1 mbar per second.
Third test tee,d off fromvac chamber vent filter clamped pressure lose 3 mbar per second.
Fourth test. Same as third but with vent filter unclamped . Pressure lose 12 mbar per second.
Compared old boost solenoid with all poets clamped. Pressure lose 7 mbar per second.
Sorry all in mbar as meter doesn't do bar. Seem to be loosing pressure via the vent filter. Boost solinoid is lr original only 5 months old.. Seems comparable to the old one on loss . Does the solinoid vent when energised or de energised . As both seem to have some vent leakage when no power applied. Any ideas ?

Took some readings by tee,ing off before vac chamber.
Tickover -14.24 psi
2000 rpm -14.31 psi
3000 rpm 14.28 psi

Took some readings
First reading at tick over second at 2000 rpm static
Not sure what unit of measurement the low pressure supply is , have emailed icarsoft and am waiting for a reply.
Fuel pump first thing this morning took 31 seconds to prime and stop , tonight after standing for 8 hours to 58 sec to prime. Pump has a gentle wirr but every so often it sounds as the impeller is unbalanced. Is it worth changing pump with filter, still scratching my head map pressure seems ok.

Have ordered new filter and fuel pump will see if that makes any difference
Have done some tests on another boost solinoid and that seems same as mine so another off the list
Does anyone know what pressure the hp pump should be at at tick over as checked my mates and it different to mine. Also his is td4 auto and mines td4 manual both 04
First pick mine at tick over
Second mine at 2000 rpm
Third mates at tick over
Fourth mates at 2000 rpm
Hp pressure and map seems a lot different ( mates is auto so not sure if it makes difference)
Any ideas or am I p@@@ing in the wrong direction
Cheers

Have checked vac readings against a mates freelander the same as mine and they seem to be the same. Also th boost solinoid giving the same readings. Changing the fuel pump and filter today , will have to wait for the next Wales run in a couple of weeks to see if it has made any difference. Next I think is turbo. Have been reading about the spray cleaner you can put in situ just by removing exhaust. Has anyone used these kits?

Your 2000Rpm fuel rail pressure looks low to me. Mine is about 65,000Kpa at 2000Rpm. You're showing half that value. You could have a suspect pressure sensor, or faulty wiring to it.

Hi nodge 68
Just replaced pump and filter from under wheel arch. Have done a test on I 930 and pressure seems up
Would the pump and filter have effected it. This reading was taken while the engine was cold as was the other readings. Cheers

That's more like it. If the filter is blocked, it will make a difference but you low pressure pump figure looked ok which contradicts the results seen. Very odd. How is it running?

Running fine. Got a little more poke. Could it be that I have the pressure in the pump but not the flow out of the filter ( I work a lot with high pressure gases and the same is true) maybe the hp pump coped with the reduced flow on the flat in Norfolk without a heaven load . Could not find any data for the min and max pressure of the hp pump. Just need to try it under load going up hills with caravan on to see if it has cured the p1470. All faults cleared in ecu. Will check hp rail plug and wiring by the weekend just as a precaution and monitor the pump pressures just to make sure it stays at that level . Cheers nodge

Well that didn't work. On way to sunny Wales with the caravan and kayaks in tow and p1470 keeps cropping up again Seem to. Be after you have slowed down and then accelerate to get to 60. It. Clears if you drop down a gear or two to get it over 3000 rpm. Had i930 on and when power is lost the map goes down ( expected). A shot in the dark I put the egr back on. I proved the grunt but still limp mode. Any ideas. Only seems to do this when cAravan is in tow

Bit strange now this one. Two things to check, turbo vanes covered in crud?
Is the vacuum pipe from the EGR solenoid to the EGR leaking, is the EGR solenoid clogged.
Other than that, I stumped.
Mike

Hi skinny Mike all new vac pipes and new lr boost solinoid. Have checked pipes again. And all well. Could. Be turbo Will have to try clean it in situ with the canned cleaner available when I get home. Could be a long journey up that a55
