I have a Metalian Maxi (brand new) for sale in the UK. Contact me directly on Heinz@metalian.co.za, and I'll forward whatever info you need. I sent this trailer to a friend with the view that he may start trading with them, but two years has passed with no progress.

I can send whatever accessories you may need that fit like standard components into the trailer. We're a respected brand in South Africa. The trailer is very light and offers more pack volume per kg of trailer than any other that I know of.

It's a mono-cocoque construction in 3CR12, a stainless steel variant designed for the local mining industry that has excellent corrosion, welding and forming properties (twice the price of normal mild steel), seam sealed and powder coated at 180 degree C.

I attach two photos and out of interest add drawings (of the Midi model) we normally provide when you order a custom build.

Bear in mind that 3CR12 does not like salt at all

So using that material in the UK isnt a brilliant idea. Its a cheap material that isnt used in this country in anything that i know of.

Hi Vilguy, I'm not sure if your comment should be seen in comparison to higher grade stainless steels 304, 316, in which case I totally agree with you. (You then however run into embrittlement issues through cyclical stressing.) But if you're comparing 3CR12 in comparison to mild steel, even if only for it's corrosion resistance, are you saying this is less resistant to mild steel?

What material do you suggest would be a better option for the UK?

Hi Vilguy, I attach a pdf salt spray analysis from an independent authority. It is self explanatory and shows the corrosion resistance of sand blasted 3CR12 to be about one third of that of mild steel. They also show that epoxy coated steels offer the least corrosion (even better than galvanized mild steel.) Bear in mind that my 3CR12 is seam sealed, powder coated in exterior grade epoxy powders and baked at 180 degrees C.

The trailer pics posted have been of the trailer after two years in open storage at the coast in the UK.

i concur that compared to straight hot rolled m.s yes it would be better, but zinc galvanised would be alot cheaper, easier to fabricate and repair and wouldnt suffer from stress corrosion cracking.

The corrosion of reinforcement bars is also somewhat different to that experienced by fabricated sheet steel on a trailer and in this scenario is the wrong data to provide as "evidence"

also, if you want to sell your stuff on here you need to have 50 constructive posts.
