Hi i have recently filled up my coolent via the expansion tank now have a problem the expansion tank is empty so i top it up the drive for 5 mins and the engine overheats and throws water back into the expansion tank, i've heard someone say about burping the system before but dont know this term please help thanks

This only happened since filling up the coolant though but i didnt disconnect the hose from the top of the radiator to the expansion tank when filling could i have an airlock if so how do i get rid of this. water is clear from oil and vice verser

they can be a royal pain in the ass, if you can run the engine whilst topping up, obviously be careful not to o/heat it tho as this is when liners can drift!

Trying that now just keeps throwing it back into the expansion vessel an pulled the pipe of the top of the radiator an water come out of there to there just something stopping the water system its got to be an airlock somewhere its doin my head in

So i need to have heater on full hot, refill the expansion tank do i need the pipe connected from the rad to the expansion tank, i'm gunna need step by step instrutions todo this because ive seemed to have tried everything and sent my head crazy dont know what i'm doin anymore

I've got the same problem with mine. Figured out that filling it to the top whilst running the engine and then leaving the expansion bottle top SLIGHTLY loose allows the pressure to build up enough to clear the airlock. Monitor over a couple of days gradually adding water until the bottle is half full when cold. Don't forget, we're coming into winter so make sure you've got the correct amount of anti-freeze in there before you start or you'll be doing it all over again.

before you start make sure the pipe is clear and free running, blow down it, then wash yer gob out cos antifreeze tastes ****, then pull the other end off, exp tank side and hook it in the exp tank and run it and top up as req'd, it should kick any air out that comes to the rad.:D
