Hi guys,

I thought I had the problem fixed :( NOT

I booked the RR in for an MOT tomorrow morning and thought, I'd give it a trash down the road>
About a 5 mile trip and when back in the drive water was spraying from the expansion cap!
bottom hose from Thermostat was cold

Now I have replaced both, t-stat and expansion cap and even tested the t-stat before fitting it. (was working fine)

I have spent about an hour trying to get all air out of the system - t-stat still does not open.

The weird part is though that when I let it idle for no matter how long - it will not overheat, nor will the t-stat open.

Any ideas

I changed my rad and bleed the system but still kept pressuring so i did 7,500 mile with the rad cap slightly loose... until it over heated a few days ago, i did the usual thermostat etc etc and spent an hour bleeding it up and thort it was done... i ended up doing a vacum pressure fill (not the house hold one ;)) and hey presto it cured it even got pressure cap fully tightend so id say just go to a garage and ask them to vacum pressure fill the cooling system. its the only way to get the air out.

I think you're on to something there :)
Earlier I was cleaning the rads on the outside with the pressure washer and thought why not use it to fill the system......so took the top hose off, and flushed it till clear, cold water was running out the top of the rad - quickly connected the top hose again, and now the temp needle sits just abov the blue and stays there..lol - Maybe I can now put the good stat in again, fill it the same way, and see what happens then....... What a carry on with this cooling system :)
