Evening All,

Just suffered from that well known law called 'Sods'. My P38 has behaved itself reasonably well this past year, apart from a wheel bearing and a autobox leak. But today when going away in the Caravan it decided to cook. Having a car full of kids and a grumpy wife, we went straight to Green Flag and got recovered.

Now my train of thought for overheating (bearing in mind, it has not done it before and today was not hot by a long chalk) is:

Either the water pump gone clunk, or the Rad is that clogged with sh*te, or the viscous fan has died.

Anyone had this sort of problem and any simple tips before I go and get milked please?

Also, I am very tempted now to call it quits and get something a little less fun. What is the going rate for a 95, P38, 4.6 HSE (gas converted with a zavoli multipoint system), that can boil and egg

for fan, start car, try to hold onto fan with the shaft of a hammer, if you can stop it easily its deaders.

get a hydrocarbon test done

turn off the gas at the lpg tanks, or disconnect the solenoid valve wires (tape em to make sure they dont touch eachother or car body)

start car, runn it on gas till it stalls, run on petrol see if it boils.

it could be that the lpg vapouriser's diaphragm has gone and its putting lpg in the water causing it to chuck the water out and o/heat

ofcourse it could be the water pump. they are only 30 quid from island 4x4

Well.............can I get the stubborn bloody thing to overheat again on gas or petrol...........oh no, I know I should be 'happy', but I will not be happy until I get to the bottom of it. Water pump appears to work with no noise coming from the bearing etc. The viscous fan works fine. I bet a pound to a pinch of pigsh*t that it dies again when I need it most.grrr
