Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and I hope you don't mind me kicking off with a problem I'm having !!

My 300tdi heater stopped working a few weeks back followed a few days later by the engine overheating.

I thought head gasket so changed it this week. However it's not made any difference.

Hot air still not blowing and engine overheating. I'm thinking a blockage, bad water pump or air lock.

Are both the feed pipe for the heater matrix and the return pipe supposed to be hot when up to temp ? Only my feed is, not sure if it's normal !

Thanks Bluehaze, I put a new thermostat in when the problems started, I suppose it could be a dud but unlikely..

Do you know if both matrix pipes should be getting hot as only one is at mo
 
both should be hot .yoiu can test thermostat by feeling top hose to rad it will get hot when thermostat opens ,are you filling system with bung on thermostat housing and rad removed and replaced when overflowing,is rad hot all over the core surface it needs to be hot over entire surface
 
Both flow and return from the heater matrix should be hot at all times once the engine is warm no matter what the thrermostat is doing. Sounds like you may have a blocked heater matrix. Flush the matrix in both directions until the water runs clear. It may solve the problem. If not you need a new matrix.

I thought they should both be hot ( Heater box pipes ) will check that out now. The thermostat I got from an Autofactor and it's made by First Line.

I will also check the temperature of the Radiator and get back to you all.

Checked heater matrix pipes and matrix = no blockage

Checked thermostat in hot water on hob = not faulty

Checked Radiator bleed hose by blowing into it = not blocked

Checked Thermostat bleed hose by blowing into it = BLOCKED ( no bubbles coming out of reservoir tank )

Is this a pressure released valve where the pipes join or is that not normal ?

I've attached an image of the pipes in question

Replaced 'y' shaped ejector pipe on reservoir tank and I now have heating in the landy again, a bit concerned however as there seems to be a little bit of white foam sitting and air bubbles gurgling up out of the reservoir tank, almost unnoticeable on idle but increases with revs.

Just used a combustion leak tester to check it's not Co2 from the chambers and it's come up clean ( not sure how well they work ! ).

Maybe it's trapped air but I've filled the cooling system up properly I think, hence the nice heat in the cabin. A mate mentioned the foam could be a reaction from the last coolant I had in there.
 
Just been for a test drive and all appears to be working again, thank you all for your advice.

I can't believe it turned out to be a little rubber pipe !!
