Ok.rad blew so changed that and water pump she will.sit all.day on tickover with no header tank cap on and temp normal take.it for a drive and in 1 minute temp goes sky.high and overheats???? Head gasket???? 2.5 dt BMW engine! Pls pls help thanks guys

Done the newspaper test on the viscous fan?

Sure all air is out following replacing the rad?

Thermostat replaced?

Didn't change stat and not checked fan got all air out for sure I'll do both tomorrow and report back

The viscous fans make a lot of noise when they cut in properly they roar like a tank.
if you replace thermostat make sure it has a air bleed hole in the outer part and is at the top.

Sadly cracked head more likely. Check for pressure build with a static test rig.

Let's hope its the stat can't believe you changed all that and not the stat at the same time, trouble is wammers is usually right on such matters
