Hi I have a 2002p38 4.0v8
When towing it over heated. I got it home and left it for about 2weeks.
Well I just started it up with the header tank empty .and it started up straight away .but there is exhaust smoke coming out of the header tank:(

How did you get it home? Did you drive it without coolant?

Starting it with no water in it is a good way to destroy the engine. You sure it's exhaust and not steam coming out of the expansion tank, because with virtually no water it will make steam quicker than an electric kettle.

I know not to let it run for long with out water.
It started smoking within 30 sec to a min
And then I turned it off

If that's it I get on and do it .but what I want to know is .is it more likely to be a dropped liner. Or a cracked block. And is there a way to tell

Which it would do with next to no water in the heads and antifreeze stinks when burnt.
Fill it with water and bleed it and try again, see if the hoses pressurise.
