I am after some info on the greenlanes in Outer Hebrides, if anyone has any experience or knowledge, please.
We are going in 5 rigs with families and would like to see a bit more than just tarmac.
I know these trails exist and the views are mindblowing but don't know where to start.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Might be worth trying here .. Green Roads

It's a different system in Scotland to the rest of UK, basically I believe you can't drive anywhere without prior permission!!!!

Exactly right Paul D, and your link is probably the best way to go.

I've been living in Scotland for only a year and have joined the Scottish Green Road Club, as its one of very few ways you'll get to do any Green Laneing up here!
It's not full on Green Laning, but you get to drive along rough tracks and see parts of Scotland you would never see unless you like hiking!

Sure Guys... I was told that it is a bit more complicated in Scotland and even started reading about it but ended up with a headache...
I will be leading a group of responsible people and the last thing I would do was to get anyone in trouble, annoy the locals and bring a bad name to 4x4ers. Hence, the questions.

Thank you kindly for your help. I have contacted Scottish Green Road Club and I'm awaiting reply... impatiently

That's a pretty good tour - lucky you ;-)

I've been up there many times, mostly in hire cars, but occasionally with a landrover. Personal experience has been that, yes, there are some amazing trails, but mostly not ones that you can drive (but you can walk, given the right-to-roam laws). As far as I can recall, I drove a bit of Toe Head (south west tip of Harris, now off-limits I believe) and not much else. That said, the walks are amazing, so unless there are major reasons for being tied to the vehicles (disabled / very young / very elderly) just park up and go off-road on foot ;-)

But - I'm neither a local nor an expert, so others may have better advice. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks for sharing your view! Really appreciated.
We'll go on foot as well, but the major reason behind going "offroad" is that we could do some wild camping in the places, where there aren't many caravans ;) (no offense, please!)
